We are trying to do our "own" thing while in port at Cozumel . . . we would like a beach w/ snorkeling for my husband and kids and beach sitting for me? We are thinking about Playa Corona or Palmar Estate Beach Club. Has anyone ever been to either of these two places . . . want something not TOO crowed or loud.

Haven't been to either of those. We went to Mr. Sanchos which was free. They have lounge chairs and tables with chairs and thatched roofs for shade. There are about 6 little shops there with the same things that are at the port only less expensive. They also had a water trampoline that cost $ 2 for the whole day in 2001. It was not crowded.

Might I suggest Paradise beach?
Heard great reviews about it.
Read about it on another board. We will be trying it for our Christmas cruise on the Elation.

My favorite is Nachi Cocom. It's not as crowded or loud as Paradise Beach. It has comfortable lounge chairs, friendly employees, a good restaurant and a pool. No snorkeling though.

We were at Paradise Beach last week. Did not notice any noise. They have a water trampoline & also an ice berg for the kids to climb on. Parasaling & wave runners can be rented.

You might keep in mind that even the proprietor of paradise beach, "paradise beach Tom" often says that the snorkeling there is not very good. Seems that sandy beaches aren't good homes to fishies, they prefer the rockier areas, so if seeing a lot of marine life while snorkeling is important, you might want to consider elsewhere. Not to say you won't see "anything" but maybe not as good as at other beaches. I'll find this out first hand next month when we stop there while on the Elation! We went to Chankanaab park in March for our snorkeling & did like it there. It does cost $12 per person over 12 to get in there and snorkeling gear was $9 to rent snorkel, mask, fins, and vest per person. Saw a fair amount of marine life there. Snorkeling is "free" at paradise beach (though they do expect you to purchase your libations & food from them---they have to stay in business somehow!) Good luck deciding. I've read about many places in Coz to snorkel.

I agree - Mr Sanchez rules. There are other beaches that are okay, playa azul being one of them. If you want tranquil beach, stay on that side of the island.... if you want waves and adventurous beach, go to the back side of Cozumel...it's like night and day.
