I'm a newly certified diver and was looking for some info on dive excursions in both places. The ship provides them but it sounds like more of a cattle boat mentality. Can anyone who has experienced both places give me some tips on who to use and what equipment to bring, I was going to bring my own regulator, mask, and fins.

Any info would be appreciated (feel free to E-mail me) dthomp11801@mchsi.com

Check out Cayman Islands Discounts Diving as they have 8 divers maximum so its much smaller groups. THey have good rates and include equipment so you don't have to haul it everywhere. I would bring your mask and fins though as I like to have my own, especially mask as I have a difficult time finding a good fit.

I would definitely recommend a wall dive as they are superb in Cayman, you might also look at the stingray city dive as its quite unique!!!

A couple other options for you in Grand Cayman, especially newly certified (and thus perhaps not comfortable with deeper depths on a wall). Eden Rock <http://www.edenrockdive.com> has an excellent operation right near the tender docks. You can do a good shore dive there, or they also have a boat operation.

In addition, Neptune Divers has been recommended to me by people I trust. <http://www.neptunesdivers.com/> 6-8 people maximum, and they are accommodating to cruise ship schedules.

In Cozumel, there are SO many other choices. Definitely no way I'd go with the ship's excursion here. I like Dive Paradise <http://www.diveparadise.com>. They are the largest dive shop on the island, with many boats - they can work with your schedule and experience to give you a really good dive trip. I also recommend Eagle Ray Divers. They cater to the cruise ship crowd giving personalized service, especially for newer divers. <http://www.eagleraydivers.com>

Holler if you have other questions!

You are right in guessing that the cruise ship dive excursions tend toward the cattle boat variety. Make your own arrangements ahead of time. Also I agree with taking your own gear, especially your dive computer. You are familiar with it and know it's history. I take all my own gear when I go.
