Has anyone done an intro to scuba diving excursion? We will be in Cozumel next thursday and my son (age 20) would like to try this. Did you get it from Carnival excursions, or book w/a private company, and who? Was it worth it? Thanks so much.

we did the intro to scuba at Chakanaab park a couple of years ago and loved it. We did it through El Clavado dive shop#3. Miguel Fuentes was the instructor and was great! we enjoyed it so much, we came home and were certified. We returned this past Feb. and a friend that was traveling with us did the intro and also loved it. We are scheduled to return to Cozumel in November and am waiting to hear back from Miguel on dive plans for that time.
I think it was $50.00 p/p all equipment provided. a second tank was available i think for $25.00 but we were tired and just wanted to lay on the beach and vegitate after the dive. I highly recommend El Clavado at Chakanaab. all you do is walk up and tell them you want to do the intro to scuba course. there is about a 45 minute lesson, and then off to the water for about an hour dive. lots of fish, coral and even a swim through of a small cave. (large tarpon inside the cave when we were there). any other questions, please feel free to ask!

I can only agree with oldmedic that discover scuba is absolutely worth the time and money, especially in Cozumel. Chankanaab park is really nice too. It is worth the $12 admission charge (bring cash). Besides the fun discover scuba, there is free snorkeling, a restaurant, botanical gardens, reproduction mayan ruins, and you can watch the dolphin encounters for free.
