Cozumel or Bahamas

Hey all... havent been on in a while! I am trying to decide to take our family cruise on 4 night to Cozumel or Bahamas. We have been to Cozumel several times, love it & know what to expect. However, am considering the Bahamas this year (out of Jacksonville, FL) but wasnt sure how it would compare. Especially want to know about the shopping? We like Cozumel b/c of the pricing and bartering and colorful heritage and the beach we visit is great for families w/children. Can anyone tell me wha to expect if we go to Bahamas instead ? Thanks alot. Sophie

cozumel hands down, the bahamas is nice, shopping is so-so,,, but i would take cozumel anyday over the bahamas, having been there 4 times in the past 2 years myself,,, but then again trying something new is always fun,,, if you like the beach, blue lagoon is the excursion to do,,, the beach at the atlantis isnt all that fantastic, pearl island has a nice little beach as well.... good luck with your descision

So for someone going on their first cruise in October, will the Bahamas hold my interest? I'm excited about going and have found some things that look pretty interesting to do.

Kim- as a first time you cruiser you should have no expectations and will be fine going to Bahamas. Are you going to Nassau or Freeport??

I am heading to freeport for the very first time and cant find anything that interests me to do in the way of shore excursions.. but this will be my 5th time to cozumelll

Serene, I'm actually stopping at both places, Freeport and Nassau. I've looked into some things but you're right, doesn't look like as much to do at Freeport.

I think if you've been to Cozumel several times, it would be nice to try different islands!

I've been to both several times, and I enjoy them equally. (Cozumel may have a slight edge.) Most of my Bahamas trips have been land-based for long wknds, but I've cruised there a few times, as well. I always find plenty of things to do. Nassau is rich in heritage, the straw market is a fun thing to do, and the food is wonderful anywhere on the island. I always enjoy a carriage ride and the drivers give a history lesson, of sorts, as he drives you around. Freeport is a fun place, as well. Just do a little homework, know what you want to do before you arrive, and you'll have a wonderful time in the Bahamas!

I would choose Cozumel. Even though I've been there more than once it's still "new" to me everytime. There is more to do there in my opinion. The Bahamas was nice but really not someplace I'd like to visit again.

Yes, Cozumel. If you live near the ocean, going to the bahamas is like going to the tourist area near your home. I mean, all you land locked cruisers can enjoy the Bahamas, but us Floridians, we go parasailing and snorkling every other day. The dolphins won't leave us alone while we're swimming so we wouldn't pay to swim with one. Boy, I am sure in a persnikity mood today! (is that how you spell persnikity?)
