It depends on where you are docking. From Cozumel it is a 45 minute ferry ride to Playa Del Carmen then about 45 minute bus ride south to the ruin site. makes for about an 8 to 9 hour day and gets very hot. Probably a must see at least once.

Colo's right....it's a very long day. But....the ruins are awesome. I think the ferry ride was a little shorter, maybe 20-30 minutes, but I could be wrong. The bus ride wasn't so bad because our guide was very informative about the Mayan culture. They also break it up with a bathroom stop at a touristy-trap kind of place. Then on the ride back they gave us a snack and free Mexican beer. It was very HOT at the ruins but the bus driver closed all of the curtains on the bus and kept the air on all day so when we got back on the bus it was like, "AAaaaahhhhh......"

I just posted some pics from our Triumph cruise in the photo gallery on this site. I didn't realize that they were that close to the ocean.....the views are incredible.

If you have never seen Actual Mayan ruins then this is a great trip.. Once. Its a very long day but you will be impressed. You'll also be impressed that you survived the bus ride there as the roads are narrow but they still seem to fit 2 busses on it. Wouldnt suggest taking younger kids. Its just too long a day.

Thanks, we'll do it. We're taking our 18 year old daughter and a girl friend. They are not enthused, but it will keep them out of trouble.

We did the the boat ride from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen in January. It is a 40-minute ride, and the waters were rough which made for a very rocky ride. Several passengers, including me, lost their breakfast overboard.
