cruisetour and clothing questions

My DH and I are going to Alaska for the first time May 10th, 2004. We're doing a
southbound cruisetour on Princess. It's the 19S cruisetour, which is the Wildernes/Copper River/ Glacier Bay, etc. I've read all the things about dressing in layers, but I was just wondering if people are wearing their spring clothes onboard and in lodges or do most people wear cold-weather clothes all the time.

Also, we would appreciate any advice on the land tour portion since we are novices in this area. Do you need to take a bag with extra clothes or do you have your luggage at every stop? Are there certain things we should make sure we take for this part that we wouldn't normally take for a cruise? Would love to hear what others wish they knew before they went the first time.so we can learn from your experience. From everything I've read -- I thought this would be a once in a lifetime trip -- but others say we'll be back again. I just can't wait.

Cruising Alaska is my favorite cruise. I have only done the land on my own not with the cruise tours but I can help with the clothes question, maybe LOL. You can tell someone from the south on an Alaskan cruise, they will be bundled up in heavy clothes and jackets. You can tell someone from the north on an Alaskan cruise they will be in spring or summer wear LOL.

For an Alaskan cruise or tour for a May 10 sailing you must be prepared for anything. You may still be in 40's and you may hit the low 70's. Your average temps will be high 50's to mid 60's. It will be cooler near the glaciers. You will probably get rain in Ketchikan. Because of all the weather possibilities you need a variety so you can dress in layers.

For a May 10 sailing you will NOT need bug sprays LOL. You will need sunglasses for the reflection off the water and the snow on the mountains and glaciers. You will see thousands of waterfalls from snow melt. You will take many more pictures than you normally take.

Alaska is extremely beautiful. You will find many things to see and do and you will NOT be able to see and do everything you want. Always keep your eyes open because you never know what you will see and where you will see it.

I will also be cruising on Princess in Alaska May 10 but going northbound and than again southbound May 17. I have sailed Alaska on these dates before. Princess does a great job in Alaska and yes you more than likely will want to go back someday.
