Customs Question

Question about going through customs after disembarking a Carnival ship in Miami:

Are there separate lines for passport holders (vs those with birth certificates) when going through customs?

And if so, if four people are traveling together, and one of the four has a passport, are all four able to get into the "Passport " lane? Or is that like sneaking in the 10 items or less line at the grocery store... :nono

Have a great weekend!

I don't think it will matter, when we debarked in Miami, they just took your paper, barely looked at you, and on you go.

Anyone have any different experiences?

I agree with James and Danna. Just make sure you are carring any drugs
or have any in your luggage. The dogs will finf it. On our last cruise, we saw
several people taken into custody because the dog found something.

My experience has been that they simply collect your customs declaration card and send you on your way. I did not observe them checking anyone's I.D., passport or otherwise.

I agree.... we were all worried about the Big Bad American Customs agents but it was no big deal. We walked down the walkway into the big warehouse of luggage, found our stuff, papers in hand headed towards the big overhead doors. Most people were holding out their papers and were just waved by with only a glance. We had two bottles of booze per person, the limit is one but we were allowed to pass. The agent pointed at my booze suitcase, asked how many, I said 4, how many people, I said two and she waved us on. I guess it's not worth it to them to mess with collecting a few dollars duty. If you have a lot to declare, you will be instructed to go to a specific area of the ship he morning of debarkment to meet with customs and pay any duties. Happy cruising!

We were in one line that moved very quickly. No one asked for anything, just grabbed our forms and we were on our way....Stephanie
