Greetings all! I have cruised once...on a Carnival Cruise to Nowhere (out of NY). I loved it...absolutely positively loved it. My husband has always been hesitant, very real concerns regarding seasickness. However he is will to give it a try.

Friends of ours just returned from a cruise on the Dawn, a 10 day cruise down to the Caribbean. They loved it. So I investigated and found a very nice cruise out of NY, down to Port Canaveral and then on to the Bahamas. Not too much time at sea. which I'm trying to minimize for my husband...just in case.

I've made tentative reservations through NCL for a minisuite on the 11th deck.

You all have so much experience at these things...I would sincerely appreciate anything you would like to share with me about the ship, the room and one more thing. I clicked on Vacations to Go...have any of you ever booked a cruise through them? Comments would be appreciated regarding them as well.

Let me thank you all in advance for your responses!

Ciao,

i've booked with them before, they are pretty good at getting last minute deals.

As for the Dawn, I've never sailed on her before. But for information on the cabins, surf to the Cruise Clues website and look at all of the many photo links for the Dawn.

As for reviews listed above, check out Shoreguy's many reviews, Waldos Pepper's, DonnaA, and N.Y. Cruiser. Many of these reviews also have photo links.

I hope this helps!

I will be cruising on the NCL Dawn late Aug with my family. I am a little concerned about the possibility of severe seas sickness for my parents who have never cruised before. My Mom is a Diabetic, amputee, and has Congestive heart failure. She is doing good despite all her illnesses. My Dad is a Diabetic as well but not as bad as my Mother. I have cruised twice but it was out of Florida. I heard the water is more clam leaving out of Florida. I have two small children who get very ill going up mountains and curves. Should I be worried about cruising from NY to Bermuda? I believe we are on Deck 8...cat. g & cat. c. Do the dramimine bands work? Is one set per person good for the entire cruise or is a new one needed daily? What should I buy that really works??
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks!

We have cruised Dawn as a couple and with the kids twice and LOVED it! The first evening, the boat was a little rough, but don't get me wrong, when I mean rough I mean SOMETIMES you could feel the ship rocking, but nothing that casued us to be ill ( my husband gets ill from watching carnival rides, hes VERY pron to motion sickness!) We did get a perscription from the dr. and I cannot remember it's name, but it's a small patch that goes behind the ear with little side effects un like dramamine which can leave you feeling drousy. Apply the patch the morning of the detarture and it lasts for up to 3 days, we filled 4 perscriptions so that my husband and kids could all have them and they only used one each, so it was a waste of $ for all of them to have there own perscription. Bottom line, not much motion and what motion we did feel was only the first night. Happy sailing!
