Hello again all, I would like to thank everyone who replied to my earlier message and gave us such good advice and recommendations on the Dawn. My wife came up with a couple of questions. One was, since the Dawn has personal choice dining, how does that work with formal nights? Do they still have them. My wife cant wait to dress up and get me in a tux so I dont want to dissapoint her. Any info on this would be appreciated.
Also I have read other posts on where to stay in San Juan with the Marriot being the hotel of choice. Is this the Marriott San Juan Resort that sits right on the beach?
We really appreciate all the help from the members
If anyone is going to be on this cruise and would like to email us our address is duckdiver@yahoo.com. Maybe we can chat:)

You will still have formal nights in personal choice dining. The only thing that is different with personal choice is that YOU get to decide what time to eat! We just came off of the Golden and had personal choice and loved it. Sorry, can't help you with the question about the Marriott. Have a great cruise!

Re: The Marriott - - That's the one, right on the beach a couple of miles up from the bridge into new San Juan. I believe it's the only Marriott in San Juan. Great hotel, you'll love it.

You'll have a great time on the Dawn too - - nice ship.

Personal choice on formal nights works just as DebraK said. The only thing is that on formal nights, you will probably have a longer wait for a table. That always happens because passengers are off taking formal pics, etc. I don't know if it would still be the case since you are only two, but we usually pair up with others we have met, reserve for a specific time on the formal nights and share a table - you get seated faster that way. The Head Waiters firmly discourage you from reserving if you are less than 5 people.

As for the Marriott, I can't say because I always stay in Isla Verde.

We were in San Juan in March. We stayed in a hotel in Isla Verde on a wonderful beach that was not rough. (I think the beach at Condado is very rough). While our hotel was just okay, we did see a property that we thought was GORGEOUS!. It was the Intercontinental. The rates are about $250.00 a day and worth it. They have a lovely pool area, so if you don't feel like going out onto the beach you can stay right there. The rooms are newly decorated and very, very nice.

If you feel like fast food rather than hotel food, there are several fast food places nearby and several local restaurants with reasonable prices.

We just loved the beach. A lot of people from Puerto Rico were there on the weekend that we were there and they were having a marvelous time.

Isla Verde is very near the airport. It cost us $18.00 to go there from the port, including 4 suitcases, 2 of which were very large.

You probably can get a room through Priceline.com. Prior to our cruise, we stayed at the Westin Rio Mar , which was lovely, and which we got through Priceline.com for $110.00 a night. Whatever hotel you go to, sign up for the hotel's frequent user card. It will get you an upgraded room even if you use Priceline. The thing with Priceline is that you are not guaranteed a particular hotel, but you can choose according to amenities. If you want a nice place, choose the resort option.

Hope this helps.
