Personal choice on formal nights works just as DebraK said. The only thing is that on formal nights, you will probably have a longer wait for a table. That always happens because passengers are off taking formal pics, etc. I don't know if it would still be the case since you are only two, but we usually pair up with others we have met, reserve for a specific time on the formal nights and share a table - you get seated faster that way. The Head Waiters firmly discourage you from reserving if you are less than 5 people.As for the Marriott, I can't say because I always stay in Isla Verde.
