Dawn Princess

My family and I are thinking of taking the Dawn on the Nov 30th cruise from San Juan, My wife and i are late 20 early 30's as well as her sister. Her parents are older and less active than we all are. What kind of nightlife can we expect on the ship, age groups? Will there be a like aged crowd there that likes to party? My wife and I are first time cruisers and we want to have fun on the ship during the times we are not in port. Although we like to lay in the sun we also like to let go in the evenings. Is this possible? Also what is the best deck for a balcony room? I have heard that the Caribe deck is not as good as the ones above it. Thanks for you help.

One of the great things about Princess is that it attracts a wide demographic. While you may not find a party 'til dawn atmosphere that other lines sometimes have, there are evening activities, disco, piano bar, combos, etc. It's not likely to be a party hearty group, but there will be others looking to have fun, especially on the San Juan sailings.

I agree that Riviera, Aloha and Baja are slightly preferable to Caribe simply because the balcony opening (think window in the hull) is a bit smaller on Caribe. Other than that, it's only a matter of location, as all the other balcony cabins are identical.

Hi - I cruised the Dawn Princess on a Carribean itinerary in January. I'm 34 and most of the passengers were older than I. However, the crowd was not as old as I had feared (it seemed the largest age group was probably 45-55 and not stuffy at all) and every age group was represented on board. The Dawn does have a disco for evening entertainment as well as a pool bar with live music some nights. While I was not tempted to stay up partying to all hours, it wasn't boring either. The ship is lovely and I met some really nice and interesting people on board. I give the Dawn two thumbs up and would jump at the chance to cruise on her again.

I completely agree with Dancing Queen.

I have cruised with Princess many times - I just came back from the Grand yesterday.
I am 32 and the crowd is always older, mostly mid 40s and up. But there are always lots of couples and/or honeymooners so you will probably find others to hang with. This past cruise, there were tons of couples in their twenties.

As far as nightlife goes, I adore Princess but I find that there is not much of a party/nightclub/dancing atmosphere in the discos. There always seems to be the same handful of people there every night... At least you'll be a party of three to have fun together! If you like dancing to live/band music like country, classic, etc in the bars like Wheelhouse Bar or Explorers Lounge, you'll be fine (I personally prefer the pop/r&b/disco atmosphere and am a night person).

In any case, in my opinion, you can't really go wrong with Princess. The service is exquisite and the crew are always great and friendly. I will travelling with Carnival in September 2003 for the first time just to see what the difference is but I know that Princess will be hard to beat ..!

And San Juan is a great place - I go there almost every year!

Have fun on your cruise!

The Sun Class are one of My Fav's. We had a large contingent of @ddicts on the Dawn for the 10 Day Southern Caribbean cruise in Jan. We have also sailed the Ocean Princes the year prior on a 10 Day Southern Caribbean itinerary and had a ball. While Princess might not be known for their party atmosphere we fould many people in our own age group that were a LOT of fun. The crowds in the disco might not rival those on Princess or Royal Caribbean there will be more than a fair share of people that will frequent the disco as well as share in the pool games and outdoor activities. Enjoy your cruise and fret not as there will be someone that U will walk away from after those 7 Days at sea that you shared MANY Gr8 times with and will remember for the rest of your life.
