MSC Fantasia the most beautiful ship in the world will be christened by the film star Sophia Loren. The contribution of such a global show business icon is especially fitting, because among the many attractions onboard MSC Cruises new flagship is a spectacular and cosmopolitan entertainment programme, worthy of a true floating city.

In addition to sensational attractions such as a Formula 1 simulator and a "virtual reality" 4D cinema, the new ship also boasts the stunning 1,603-seat Theatre Avanguardia. Spanning three decks, this impressive venue will play host to an exciting and varied array of shows to suit every taste, from old-style variety, popular opera and circus acrobatics to high-tech wizardry, classic pop and sensual dance performances. Complemented by cutting-edge special effects and dynamic staging, a richly talented international cast of singers, dancers and acrobats will create moods ranging from the mythical to the ultra-modern over the course of each cruise.

Bolero, a romantic tale featuring the contrasting elements of ice, water and fire, will be the first ice dancing show ever seen on a European cruise ship, thanks to a specially created synthetic skating rink. In another cruising first, a real helicopter will be made to materialise amazingly on stage, courtesy of French illusionist Max Stevenson, in Love Boat, a show dedicated to the magic of cruising.

Ideal for pop fans of all ages, Freddie Forever pays tribute to rock band Queen's legendary lead singer, Freddie Mercury, supported by a suitably extravagant stage show of state-of-the art laser and lighting effects. Elegance, humour and energy are the order of the day in Fantasie, a vibrant showcase of variety acts in "old European" style.

Odyssey, on the other hand, is an acrobatic flight of fancy, where the dancers share star billing with an imaginative set featuring giant translucent spheres.

Using the latest technology to evoke the atmosphere of a bygone age, the medieval show Excalibur takes its inspiration from the legend of King Arthur.

Last but not least, Tribute provides a fitting finale to the cruise, uniting the vocal virtuosity of Italian tenor Enrico Scotto and Spanish soprano Maria Jesus Escudé in a modern interpretation of some of the most famous operatic arias.
