deep sea fishing in Costa Maya

Hi there,

We are 2 girls cruising with Explorer of the Seas in december docking in Costa Maya december 8 2004.

We are considering going deep sea fishing and would like to know if anyone can
recommend this? Don't see anyone posting about this, and since it's rather expensive we would like to know if we better try to find something else to do.

Also the smallest excursion is a private half day charter that carries up to 4 anglers and costs USD 325.

Since we are only 2, maybe anyone also docking in Costa Maya on december 8 would consider to share?
(I also send an email asking the tour operator if they might be able to find some other interested people).

Any information will be appreciated.

We did a Dune buggy tour there just last month. It was great! They take you to a nice beach , so take a suit or snorkle gear.We had a nice day and still had time to take a taxi to Mahahaul to shop.Costa Maya is a manmade port. Shopping prices are better in Mahahaul. A 5 min taxi ride . You can bicker on prices.

I haven't seen charters offered out of Costa Maya. Do you have a link?

Other stops will have fishing. Cozumel has a 4 hour stint via RCCL for $125 per person, probably 6 on board, rotating chair unless you run into a school of dolphin plus there are other outfitters you can grab.

Belize and Georgetown both have private charters, just be careful with your time schedules and consider those tender rides at the latter ports.

Did you fish in Costa Maya?

We were there on December 14 and chartered a boat for $90.00/hour. We fished for two hours (caught 2 Barracudas) and snorkeled the last hour. My daughter wanted no part of snorkeling after she saw the teeth on the barracudas. There were several booths selling excursions when we got on shore. This was a small boat, but it was perfect for the four of us (2 adults/2 children). We fished relatively close to shore, in fact we passed about 100 yards in front of our ship while it was docked.
