Bob,
I looked on CNN.COM to see if they had any information on the Destiny and they didn't. I also looked up ship board illnesses and there wasn't anything there either. I was just wondering what news station you heard about the Destiny on? I wonder if Carnival would give you any information if you called them?

I'm as curious as you are but I'm unable to find any informaiton so if you hear anymore let me know.

Happy sailing,

Hi Alley,
I heard it from cruiser Ana, who lives in San Juan and heard it on her local news. Whaddya say we chip in a few bucks, and send her down to the dock in a cab to find out the scoop :))
I figure the Cruise-Addict members probably pigged out at the buffet, and the ship was in danger of sinking. Or they all went to one side of the ship and it took on water. Could happen, huh?

Bob,
LOL, I think they pigged out at the buffet and drank too many fu-fu drinks!

God knows where the rumour got started but if cruiser Ana hears anything more I hope she lets us know.

I didn't hear anything about the Destiny, but people got the virus the other day on the Holiday.

Right, the Holiday does a 5 day cruise out of N. Orleans, and doesn't go to San Juan. I didn't even see anyone on the boards that was scheduled for the Oct. 12 sailing, so we could ask them when they get home, did you?

Just heard from Pam who was on that cruise, she just got home tonight. The A/C broke down late Wed afternoon, and the ship stayed overnight in Barbados, then sailed for Martinique to pick up mechanics. They couldn't fix it (too hot to work, mon) and they sailed back to San Juan. They had to dock at RCC because immigration refused to come on board with no A/C. They waited 6.5 hours to get off, lots of confusion, some crew were "nasty". CCL arranged hotels and earlier flights for "most" of the ppl. Pam will post the whole story after she cools down.

Jeez I kept telling her, ya can't stand in front of the A/C with yer dress pulled up without consequences!

Thanks Bob,
I still haven't seen anything on the news but I'm glad we got the truth.
I'm glad to hear it wasn't the fu-fu drinks and the buffet. LOL

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a problem free cruise on the Pride but if there are any problems please let there be plenty of fu-fu drinks for me to drink my sarrows away! lol

Any word on how Carnival reimbursed the cruisers? I know I would not be happy with a $300 shipboard credit. From what I see on other boards the passengers were quite upset with the treatment they received from the Carnival crew and staff. Apparently this is not the first time this ship has had electrical and A/C problems.

Just saw this on another board:

Cabins were very hot, huge numbers of people slept outside on lounge chairs. .

I personally was happy somehow throughout, and satisfied with compensation (50% refund plus 50% off future cruise). They put me up in a very nice hotel (marriott resort), gave me $40 food voucher for the hotel restaurant, shuttle to hotel and airport. They did an excellent job arranging new flights for me, even though I had not booked my airfare through the cruise! It was my first Carnival Cruise, but I'm already looking for my next one thanks to the 50% off voucher.

Staff mentioned aircon disaster had happened to same ship in a prior year.

A second disaster was attempting to leave the ship. Pulled into port at 2pm, I didn't get off til 8pm, many leaving after I did. That's 6+ hours. I spoke with people who got off Jubilee the next day, they said it took them 5 hours to get off, so Puerto Rico is having some problems as a carnival cruise port right now. Someone said something about a strike affecting unloading.

A/C out?! That's discouraging. I'll taking my very first cruise next May on the Destiny from San Juan. I suppose that's the chance I'll take.

Not to worry. When the Destiny works, which is most of the time, it's a great, exciting, and fun first cruise.

Hi Everyone...we sailed the Destiny Oct 19 thru Nov 2...the AC was minimal the 1st week...they left notices in each cabin stating they had an AC problem & were working on it...the second week it was up & running and the ship was freezing.

We had a great time...the usual gripes...kids/teens taking over pools with no adult supervision or Carnival involvement... the first week, the Lido pool was ruled by a "gang" of teens...I guess enough people complained because they sent up a security guard who just stood there and wagged his finger, as if to say "No No"...the teens just laughed at him and continued doing cannonballs off the hot tub. We switched pools for the second week and it was better....we used the pool at the back of the ship near the Grille.

Also...we hated the new beach towel policy..it was easier when they supplied unlimited towels at the pools..

I tried out the spa during the second week and found it "Lukewarm" at best...the staff were just mediocre at their jobs...the one treatment I truly enjoyed was the scalp massage & hair conditioning...excellent (it was with Rebecca). I also booked the Body Glisten massage and they tried the Bait & Switch with me...if you wait till a port day or towards the end of the cruise, the prices drop significantly...I book the Body Glisten for Saturday at $79....down from $127...they tried to charge me the $127 and throw in some products...I was furious !!! The girl said she told me on the phone it was $127...after we got a flyer advertising it for $79...she got huffy and stormed out of the room...slammed the door..and went to "talk to her manager"...End result..I paid $79...but will NEVER use the Spa again

But we had a great vacation, got great tans and relaxed !!!!
