We were on the Destiny in April of 2005. First of all be aware that the San Juan airport can be slow at times....unloading luggage, etc. It's not a big problem..just good to know before you get there and get frustrated. :) Also they didn't let us embark until 12:30pm...this hadn't been the case when we sailed on the Jubilee the year before.

The Destiny was a very different ship. It was somewhat dark and modern...if that makes sense. Lots of different lights made the ship's decor much more exciting at night than during the day. My favorite room was where the Karoke took place...musical instruments on the ceiling & walls...matching themed carpet.

If you arrive early at the ship you can get off again after you check in - just like any other port. We didn't do that this time because of a surprise downpour.

St Thomas is always nice to visit. We had been there before..so we decided to just take it easy. Get out of bed late...shop at the stores. It was great. We've taken the excursion to snorkel at St. John's bay before..that was great. Magen's Bay was beautiful. And we have done the tour that takes you to the top of the island where you can see for miles...on a clear day.

Dominica...we had been to the previous year on the other "leave from San Juan" cruise. So instead of a "get to know the island" excursion, we did the Arial Tram Excursion...that was great!

We did the coast to coast tour in Barbados...it's probably not the best port but it was interesting. And part of it were very pretty. The port itself is a working port...and surprisingly enough at dinner we all talked about how the railroad cars were transported from the barge to the truck beds, etc. Here we thought we'd be the only ones who had found that interesting to watch.

In Aruba we toured part of the island...it might have been the see and sea tour. I can't recall at the moment. We stopped at the light house and the Natural Bridge...both beautiful places to see. Our guide was excellent about telling us all the detail about Aruba. Once back by the pier we ate at Iguana Joe's. Ran into someone on the island from back in our hometown - small world.

Debarkation seemed unorganized. Even so...we were at the airport shortly after 9AM.

General notes...the food was excellent and the service good. The Maitre d was visible all week. The dancers and singers were very good. The ventilation on this ship is not as good as on other ships...so at times there were areas that seemed smokey. The attitude of some of the staff was a bit off...but that was a long time ago and I suspect changes have happened since then.

If you have any questions..just let me know!
