I am traveling on the Saphire Princess this summer. I was wondering if anyone had traveled on the diamond princess and could give me some examples of the food offered in the personal choice dinning rooms. if anyone knew a place where i could find sample menus or something i would appreciate it. happy cruising!!!

Here is a link to some Princess menus. They don't vary too much from ship to ship or year to year for that matter.

The menus offered in the Personal Choice dining rooms are the same as the ones in the Traditional Dining room. In addition the Personal Choice Dining rooms offer things that fit the "theme" of that dining room. No experience myself with those menus yet . I get to try them out next February.

We did book Personal Choice Dining Hucc and that is a great idea. Would love to have dinner with you at least once while on this cruise. As time gets closer we can choose a dining room, time and date!! :thumb

I will be sailing on the Diamon in October and we signed up for personal choice dinning. I really can't figure out how it works? Do you make reservations or just show up when you feel like eating?

Happy sailings,
Alley

Alley, go to the cruisecritic.com website and read the ship review. If explains personal choice dining on the cruise. There have been many complaints about people just showing up for dinner and not getting seated for an hour. Looks like reservations are best at this point, but things may improve once Oct. rolls around.

Hi Alley! We did personal choice dining on the Grand last September. Up til then we had gone the traditional route. We loved personal choice and would probably never go back to traditional if we have the choice.

Ideally you are supposed to be able to show up at the dining room at any time during the posted dinner hours. We did just that on the Grand and had no long waits. We mostly asked to be seated with other diners rather than a table for two. We only had to wait one evening and the wait was about 15 minutes....no longer than we often have to wait for a table in a restaurant at home. No big deal. We're on a cruise to relax!

Cruisers that are just off the Diamond are suggesting that it is a good idea to make reservations for the whole week as soon as you get onboard. Keep in mind that the Diamond has just completed her second full week of cruising. Things may improve as time passes. If you keep reading reviews that suggest making those reservations as your cruise gets closer you might want to consider it then. Don't worry, you will have plenty of opportunity to eat :grin!!!

I just returned from sailing of the Diamond Princess. We did personal choice dining and enjoyed the experience. There is the International dining room (Traditional seated dining), Sterling (American steakhouse), Vivaldi's (Italian), Pacific Moon (Asian), and the Santa Fe (Mexican). We made a reservation at each one of the themed restaurants to sample the cuisine. One night for a special treat and a $20.00 additional charge (per person) we went to Sabatini’s trattoria.

No matter which restaurant you dine at, you are also given the "traditional" menu to select from the International dining room. At each of the "themed" restaurants, there are usually two or three choices from that particular restaurant. For example, at the Sterling there was sirloin steak, filet mignon, and some sort of pork chop.

Sabatini's was an elegant and fun dining experience. Instead of selecting an appetizer, entree, etc..., we were given a small amount of everything!

Pick which restaurants you wish to eat in and make reservations immediately. Even if you have personal choice dining you won't be able to just "show up" at a busy restaurant and get in - especially if you want to go to the Princess Theatre.

One couple we spoke with made their reservations too late, but enjoyed the experience because they were given a cozy window table at the same restaurant each evening.
