Did they get me?

Just returned from the Glory's cruise of 11/19. Had a great time. Bought a watch I thought was a Rolex in Cozamel. Got back to the ship and the "jeweler" on board gave me the hairy eyeball like I had been taken and not gotten a real Rolex. I bought it in one of the shops that Carnival had recommended in its touting during the cruise. Also was a store that has a Miami location and an 800 number. I received an appraisal but I assume thats not worth the paper its written on. After I go to a local jewelry store and have someone look at it, what recourse do I have with either the store,it's Miami location or Carnival? Is this common when you buy a watch from what looks to be a reputable store?

If you bought it from a Carnival recommended store Carnival may be willing to help you out. I believe that Carnival itself offers some guarantee to people who buy things from the stores that Carnival recommends.

First find out what you got. Then, if necessary, contact Carnival and both store locations.

I disputed some jewely I purchased in Cozumel. The place I purchased it from kept pressuring me to puchase this jewelry (I liked it) but I really didnt want to make a impulse decision. I did --However, when I came back home I called my credit card company and I asked them not to pay that company and then I went and had it appraised at a local place. It only took an hour and I was pleased to find out what I purchased was a great deal. I then authorized my bank to pay for my purchase.

If you purchased the watch at a Carnival recommended store, you have a guarantee backed by the cruise line. The policy is that if you are not satisfied with your purchase after returning home, you have the ability to return the product and get a full refund for a specified period of time (I'm thinking 30 days). Go to Carnival's website for a full explanation of the policy.

If they did sell you a knock-off, then that was a very foolish move. If a major cruise line is reccomending a particular merchant, and that's what goes on then Carnival must be made aware.

I wanted to add, this is how we can be the eyes and ears for the cruise lines.
