Hello all. I have a dilemma on my hands. As my kids get older, we can only cruise during school vacations, so my choices are dwindling. Looks like my choices for next April are either a 7 day eastern or western on the Freedom or the Liberty, which I am sure would be great, (we will have done both itineraries and one of the ships) or a 9 day eastern caribbean on the Explorer. The upside to the Explorer is the obvious extra 2 days, but in addition, it sails out of NJ, so we could drive instead of flying, which would be great! The other upside is because it is already selling out pretty quickly, we would have to book a GS.....boo hoo!!!! But we would have a JS on the Liberty, which is nothing to sneeze at either....The downside, of course is that after sailing the Liberty this April, I am afraid I might be disappointed with the Explorer, plus the fact that it won't be terribly warm during the beginning or the end of the cruise....anyone know how long it takes to warm up when leaving out of NJ in April?? Anyway, I am obviously confused...anyone have any input???? Thanks!

Well you got two very good options and I'll tell you what we did... we booked the 9 night Explorer, except ours is for May! In all honesty not having to fly to your embarkation port is so much more worth it because of the packing hassle. If it is cold in April, which I would guess it will be around 50 but anything could happen, the first and last sea days will be too cold to go in the pool. But look at it this way, if you were flying down to Miami for the Liberty you would most likely fly down the day before and not start your cruise till the next day, on the Explorer you skipped your flight and started your cruise right away, and if it's too cold outside there will be plenty to do inside!

If I had a choice of 7 vs 9,9 would win out...........dont forget too, you wouldnt have to worry about weight limits for your suitcases.......

either way, you'll be gone around 9 days anyway .why not spend those 2 days on a ship and not sitting around an airport/hotels........

I would recommend booking soon though because those New Jersey cruises really sell out extremely fast. We waited too long to book ours (we booked in January for May) and almost ended up with a horrible cabin. Luckily at the last minute someone gave up a perfect JS in the center of the ship and we grabbed it... for an arm and a leg though.
