Dilemma

My husband and I are considering the 11 day cruise on the Celebrity Summit in Dec. 2003 from Fort Lauderdale, stopping at the following ports: Cozumel, Aruba, Costa Rica, Panama, Grand Cayman and Key West. We are also considering the 7 day cruise on Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas from San Juan stopping at Curacao, Aruba, St. Marten and St. Thomas. On one hand, we have been on 2 Celebrity cruises (Summit and Infinity) and have enjoyed the atmosphere and service immensely but are not sure about the ports as we have received mixed reviews. On the other hand, we like the itinerary of the Royal Caribben but are not sure we we would enjoy this line as much as Celebrity, Can anyone provide some feedback because we are going back and forth with this decision.

I have been on neither of the ships so ...here's my thoughts. 7 vs 10 days take the 10. RCL is good Celebrity is better? take the Summit, Ft. Lauderdale vs San Juan. I'd take F La. as it's easier to get to. (Not sure where you are!!) Ports.?? Other than the new stop in Costa Rica have been to them all and I would for sure go on the Summit and vist those places again. Panama is the clincher with Cozbeing 2nd. Great places.

Any one considering RCCL over Celebrity, should read the cruise forums on Frommers. com, and other forums. There are are many posting about the poor food on RCCL in the main dining room. The extra cost restaurant seens to be much better. We have been on several Celebrity cruises, and always found the food in the main dining room to be excellent.

I did the 11-night Summit last year. If I had the choice of that vs. an RCI ship for 7-nights out of San Juan I'd do the 11-night in a heartbeat.

1) Flying to San Juan is the pits--plus the airfare is expensive
2) 11-nights is ALWAYS better than 7!
3) Personal preference--I prefer Celebrity to RCI

As far as ports go, what do enjoy doing in ports? That's an extremely personal preference also. You can read my review of the 11-night Summit cruise by clicking here to give you an idea of what we did in port, if you think that will help.

I love Celebity and agree 10 days over 7. I sailed on the Voyager of the Seas last
year with my husband and teens. The teens loved the ship, favorite etc. I must admit
the food was really good, basically the same as Celebrity. It was great fun especially for the kids, rock climbing, skating, min golf, basketball. But they are only offered on sea days so they didn't climb, skate maybe played a round of golf and basketball. Johnny
Rockets we did on our last day it was good always a long wait. I understand the way to go is call and order to go. I didn't like the layout of pools, I like big pools.

The skating show is offered twice and you had to go wait in line days ahead to get tickets
or you didn't see. It was a great show, worth seeing.

My husband & I have sailed on both Celebrity & RCCL. We prefer Celebrity. Even though RCCL is the parnet company of Celebrity - we found the service & food much
better on Celebrity then RCCL. To this day we will only sail on Celebrity.

This one is up to your prefrences

rccl is a more casual environment but yet is not too casual. It is very active but not overly active such as carnival ( not to offend anyone who actualy likes them).
the food menu is prepared by the same chef as celeb. I personaly cant tell the diff in quality between the two.

length

If you have time for a 10 night ....most certainly do that
if not go on the 7 night

ports

all of the ports you listed are great I loved them all although st thomas is my world favorite.

really its up to where you can go and how long you have if this does not effect you I would always take the longer cruise. sumit is a beautiful ship. you cant beat her on celeb.

although some time try explorer or navigator of the seas on rccl its the best time you will ever have.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think we decided on the 11 day cruise on the Summit.
