Just a quick question regarding what to wear in the dining room on nights that are not formal. Will I need a jacket and tie for the other nights. Collared shirt, polo shirt. What is the usual.

Thanks for the help!!

No shorts either [at dinner] I don't think jeans are actually forbidden but I wouldn't wear them in the Caribbean anyhow. If you go to the res. only restaurant you will need a jacket and tie.
Remember that when a certain attire is "suggested", that is the polite way of saying 'Its an order" Same as when a General "suggests" something to his troops.

Nights that are not formal polo shirts are acceptable. You will not see many jackets and ties on non formal nights.

Suggested wear is a nice shirt and pants. No shorts although the first night they don't say anything because some luggage does not arrive before dinner.
The night previous to fomal night they announced the dress code at dinner, then pretty much said point blank that they just wanted you to show up, even if you didn't have a jacket.
Formal night we saw MAYBE 3 men in tuxes, suits or jackets were the norm.

It is amazing how each cruise has its own personality. I have been on cruises where there were few men in tuxes. But my last two cruises, Voyager of the Seas and Carnival Pride, at least half the men wore tuxes. On the Pride it could have been 3/4, every where one looked there were hardly anything but tuxes. The few that did not dress up really stood out. On a 3 or 4 day cruise I don't even take my tux, too much trouble, might even spend formal nite on the Lido deck in shorts. But on a longer cruise I enjoy getting all gussied up, and the wife would kill me if I didn't.

Usually a jacket and tie are just fine.....! Unless you want to take the opportunity to dress 'to the nines'. Sometimes it's fun to get all dressed up...I've done it even when I know that I'll be a little overdressed.

Hi, Dean!
I have found that "resort casual" is the name of the game, long pants for both men and women, no jeans, although on CCL I don't see anyone being scolded for wearing them. Women can wear casual skirt and top. Basically if you look like you have stepped out of a Docker's commercial you're in good shape!
Happy Sails!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Speaking of "being scolded".....................

..........formal night, at about 11PM, I switched from a suit to shorts to end the evening.
Walking out of the casino, looking in a gift shop window, a uniformed security officer kindly infomed me that on formal night long pants were required on that entire floor!
Just that floor, just that evening.
I found that very interesting.
No big deal as I was on my way aft to sit on the deck anyway.

In the casino you can be just about naked and no one will say anything.

That's interesting, most of the people seem to go back to their cabin and change into comfortable clothes after dinner! Was that on a Carnival ship?

ALOT of people change into casual clothing after dinner on formal nights. I like to stay dressed up at least through the show after dinner, but we often change into something else after that. You will see just about every type of dress later in the evenings! :)

Now I cheated on formal night because I wore a pant suit that was white with embroidery in white but it was very very nice and it looked ok . I just didnt feel like getting dressed way up and I brought my husband a nice shirt long sleeved and pair of dress pants .. He was fine , for a three day cruise , no one said anything and he didnt look out of place..

I think the titanic days are over and people are wearing what they feel comfortable in ,
On the princess we did dress formally for the formal night .. my husband wore a suit and everything and yet someone DID WEAR SHORTS to the FORMAL NIGHT WITH THOSE THINGYS that hold your pants up you know suspenders ..

But he WAS RICH and no one said ANYTHING TO HIM AT ALL ..

I think Carnival is more relaxed ... people do what they like and no one seems on those 3 day cruises to much care..

Oh what do I know anyway , I have to remember my last Fantasy trip was all out of whack and we didnt know what was what and it was a minute by minute affair ...

I dont know , so listen to the people who have cruised a lot and know more . .I just like to ramble on and on and I heard somewhere we can take naps on this board

On week or longer cruises my man wears a tux on formal night, for a long time he objected until I explained that when he wears his tuxedo it has the same effect on me as it does if I wear sexy lingerie for him, I just ask him if he could remember a single time that he wore his tux that I didn't rip it off him to get some action...booty...mattress testing...ect.ect.ect...Now just for fun he has it on for me when I get home from work...
works every time...knudge knudge, know what I mean
having fun Jo-rene

On non-formal nights, Jeans are fine, there should be no shorts or cut-offs. I have seen some of these and never seen anyone asked to leave. Formal nights, tux. or suit & tie are fine. On all of the ships we have been on, jeans are allowed for non-formal nights.
