I recently went online and found the same cruise for the same date , same ship, etc.
at a lower fare, I called carnival, they would not honor the lower fare and that I would have to try going thru a ta to see if I could get the lower fare. Any suggestions?

ali38,

While I love Carnival when I am on ship and during the entire experience, I can honestly say I've never booked directly with them. I usually spend a couple months researching online different TAs and fares and consistently find MUCH (like a couple hundred dollars if not a lil more) cheaper prices through TAs. One thing I do though, when researching TAs is make sure they are in good standing with the BBB. If they so much have one blemish on their record that I can read, I find a new TA. One reason.. the TAs I find are out of state for me :p I founf a very good TA in Florida, their website is www.bestpricecruises.com and they have treated my wife and I and the other couple that are going with with nothing but respect and a great deal!

I guess my suggestion boils down to this. If you are considering a cruise, through whatever line, research and compare online fares and TAs to the lines themselves. I doubt you'll ever consider booking through the line again.

You can always do better through a TA whether land based or internet agency. You can always transfer your existing booking to a TA as well. Most TA's will discount at least 5% in addition for getting your business. Large cruise booking agencies have the best reputations for good service and values. I use an American Express travel agent. but do lots of comparison on-line, too.

If you are not in the penalty period yet (final payment due date), then just ask the online t/a that has the lower fare to transfer your booking to their agency. As long as you are not the in penalty period Carnival should not give you a problem about transferring your reservation.

Good luck!
