MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:

The new flagship MSC Poesia,will be cruising to Greece, Turkey and Croatia, offering 8-day/7-night cruises to discover the treasures of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Departures will be every Saturday from Venice and every Sunday from Bari until 9 November 2008.

Refinement and class are but a few of the outstanding elements of this latest addition to the fleet, designed by Studio De Jorio International. Sophisticated colour schemes as well as attention to detail and service will ensure guests enjoy a truly special cruise on board MSC Poesia.

Her vital statistics are: 93,300 tonnes, 294 metres long, 50 metres high and 32 metres wide, with a maximum cruising speed of 23 knots. There are a total of 1,275 cabins, 80% of which are ocean-view accommodations, including 65% with private balconies. There are 16 decks, 13 being accessible to the public. There are 22,000 square metres of public spaces, seven themed areas, two pools and four hot tubs, plus the MSC AUREA SPA which covers 1,500 square metres.

MSC Poesia departs weekly from Venice,arriving every Sunday in Bari and then travelling on to Katakolon to discover the archaeological treasures of Olympia. The ship will then call into the beautiful Turkish resort of Izmir,situated at the end of a long and slim gulf. This will be followed with a stop in a city that straddles east and west, where centuries have added to the ‘must-see' quarters of magical Istanbul. Transiting the Bosporus and the Dardanelles, the ship will arrive in Dubrovnik - the "pearl of the Adriatic" - before returning to Venice.

The excursions include:


  • Olympia (from Katakolon)
The ancient city sits at the foot of Mont Kronos, home to the Olympic games of ancient times. Today the archaeological site holds beautiful temples, the stadium and the buildings used by the Greek athletes of the past.


  • Ephesus and Mary's House (from Izmir)
Join a guided tour of the ruins of a famous ancient city, stopping at the Odeon theatre and the library of Celso, then on to Mary's House, where the mother of Jesus is said to have lived her final years.


  • De Luxe Istanbul
Discover some of the gems of this amazing metropolis from the Blue Mosque to the ancient Hippodrome, to Saint Sofia and Topkapi Palace. Also part of the tour is a visit to the colourful Grand Bazaar, the main covered market in the city.
