do I want this upgrade?

A while ago I thought someone told me a cabin wouldn't be upgraded if you had reserved a particular cabin number as opposed to a "guarantee" which is less specific. Well whatever I thought Canival called and left a message that ONE of the two cabins I reserved had been upgraded. They gave me a different cabin number which is 4-D instead of 4-C (room doesn't look any different) It does look like its one deck higher. All that said. The room they want to upgrade is the inside stateroom I intended for the kids. The previous inside room was close to the balcony room my wife and I will stay in. Can I call them back and say I don't want the upgrade?
How long do I have before they re-sell my original room. Can I tell them don't upgrade my reservation unless they do both rooms? Lastly, is it overprotective to feel the kids (12 and 17 year old girls) need to be on the same deck as our room? Thanks

Though unusual, even reserved cabins can be upgraded. However, in your case I was explain to Carnival that while you are happy with the offer, you have to turn it down unless both cabins are upgraded. Explain that both cabins are for the same family and you want the entire family near to each other. And you are correct, 4D is the same class of cabins one deck higher. I would definately call Carnival back and explain the family issue. And no, I don't think you are being overly protective by having your two daughters near you - on the same deck.

My kids will be 15 and 17 when we cruise and I want them as close to us as possible. I plan to do middle of the night bed checks and don't want to be running around the ship in my PJ's at 3:00 AM. As of right now, the kids are booked in a cabin directly across the hall from us. I sure hope Carnival doesn't change us. I don't think you're being over protective at all. Call Carnival and explain your situation. I'm actually surprised they did this because I was under the impression that Carnival insist's that minors in their own cabin be right next to or across the hall from their parents/guardians. Maybe it was an oversight on their part or did you book an adult in each cabin and plan to switch after boarding?

I also agree that having your kids close by isn't being overprotective. I have traveled with my girls when they were about the same age and had them in the cabin right next door to us. I would not want my kids on another deck! Just let Carnival know your situation and I'm sure they'll be sure to keep your rooms together.

Ya, call them up! Ask them to move your cabin up to the deck with your kids on for screwing up in the first place. Your never gonna see your kids as it is, so you might as well keep them close by.

I am sure you can refuse the upgrade. Thats the reason you booked set cabins. Are the kids registered in the cabinby themselves or is there an adult in there too?

It's simple. Call Carnival back and tell them you booked those two specific cabins for a reason, and that's exactly what you want. Young people that age need to be within the area of their parents, for many reasons. Tell Carnival an upgrade is not acceptable - unless both cabins are situated like what you booked. Insist on the arrangement you booked and paid for!

Actually We booked the cabins with one adult and one daughter in each. Although I wasn't real happy to admit being 55, it entitled the wife and I to senior discounts(would can the discounts to be 35). So we have two cabins but since one is a balcony and one is the no window inside variety we aren't sure where everyone will be sleeping. It was cheaper to get the inside room for two with the discount than it would have been to pay for all four in the balcony room.
As long as there are no room police even if we use the inside room for luggage and the extra bathroom we are ahead. That is why the rooms being close is important. I guess if we only store luggage in the inside room it lessens the importance of the rooms being close but for not much difference in room quality I would prfer the original rooms.
By the way, we had to cancel one of our five reservations because my daughter and her boyfriend have called it quits. That cost me $250 and I was further surprised by the amount of the credit to my credit card. It was smaller than one third of the price of the room because the first and second passengers pay more. Oh well. thanks for all the advice. Its getting closer now(11/19) Hope the older daughter doesn't crap out on me because she has no one her age to hang with.

Cancelled. You know you can change names on your tickets right up to the last minute. Rather than cancel and loose money, i always find a freind who want to go. Heck, I'd rather let my friend go for free than let the cruise line have my money for free.

Public Defender -

I have been thinking about this since my original post to you. I keep wondering, why did Carnival do this? The only answer I could come up with is, Carnival does not realize the two cabins are together. This happened to me. The cabins were not linked. This could result in the two cabins been assigned different dinner tables.

My suggestion - call Carnival or your TA and make sure the two cabins are linked. Better to do this now before you get on the ship rather than after you get on the ship. It only takes one phone call to verify this.

I just called the TA and got the story on my "upgrade". When I cancelled one of the bookings they took the inside cabin because they say it was for three people and now I only had two. Their "upgrade" is to a cabin designed for two on a deck above the one we were previously on. I can't have the original cabin back and there are no other inside cabins on the deck the balcony room is on(upper deck). If I want a balcony room on the deck the inside cabin is now on(empress) it's an extra $300 for the same room but one deck up. Thats in addition to the $250 I lost for cancelling the third person out of the inside cabin. Pretty crummy. I told the TA I'd split the difference with them but I feel like they aren't really making an effort to be fair. The whole thing is really giving me a bad taste.

ahh, so you cancelled a person. that will explain why. Yes, the cruiselines can move your 2 people from a 3 person cabin to a 2 person cabin. I guess your sailing is selling rather good then.
I am sorry that you learned the hard way.

Hey,
i suggest you call Carnival and tell them about your concerns about your two little girls being so far away from you and see what they can do. If you get the right person and they are concerned about family safety they can offer a special price to your TA or even take over the booking for you. Don't call the regular number, call this one (800) 819-3902 they are differant than the regular Carnival booking people. The girl I use calls me at home with special deals, works hard to get me special treatment, I even have her Cell number in case her line is busy.

After my last talk with the TA when I refused to go for the extra $300 to be on the same deck as the upgraded inside room the cruise line threw me into, I received two e-mails this morning one with the inside room on the deck above where my old cabin was AND a reservation and room number for a balcony room immediately accross from the new inside room they gave me. Does this mean I've won? Or is this the TA showing me how close the location of my two rooms would be if I cough up the $300? And I thought plea bargaining was hard!

Ruffy- according to the reservation the kids are not in the cabins themselves. This is why canrival puts a parent in the cabin with one kid and another with the other kids. No leeway here for that argument.

Ruffy was Right!
Carnival changed my balcony room to the same deck as the inside room the kids are in-no charge. The rooms are right accross from each other and maybe a little further towards the back of the ship-near the aft stairs. Now there are only rooms above and below us not lounges or casinos. Hope nothing changes now. All I have to worry about is no insurance, same day flight and the end of the hurricane season. No wonder the cruise is so relaxing, by the time you're actually on the ship you're exhausted.
