Do Princess cruises rock more than other boats ... (also the Dawn?)

Hi. I have heard that Princess cruise boats stabilizers do not work as well as other boats. Is this true?
I was thinking of sailing the Dawn in Feb (from San Juan / classic souhern carribbean route), any comments on this boat/route would be helpful.
Thanks!

Marina: I've sailed on 5 Princess ships, 5 Holland America, 2 Celebrity, 2 Norweigan, 1 Cunard, 2 RCI and 1 Costa. Can't say that any ship rocked any more than others, because they usually don't rock at all! Oh, sure, there is the odd day of rougher than usual weather and any ship will rock a bit - even been in a few storms that at least let us know were were on a ship, but nothing to be uncomfortable or worry about.

The sheer size of the Dawn Princess surely will eliminate a lot of rocking - it's huge! So, don't use rocking as a criteria for booking a certain ship - they are all wonderful and you will have wonderful time!

Bon Voyage!

I feel the Sun Class ships handle the waves better than the Grand, and the Dawn is beautiful. A couple individual ships (the Ocean, for example) seemed to have continuing movement comments, but she is now with P&O, so no worries.

Yes, IMO. You'll get tons of replies both ways though. It's very subjective - everyone has different expectations & experiences. SOOOO, iIn my limited experience (about 10 cruises), I've found that the Grand Class ships don't handle the wind & high waves well in the AFT & FORE sections only. Mid-ship is fine though. I think RCI's Radiance Class ships 'ride' the smoothest.

Now you guys are getting me nervous. I am booked on the Grand for 11/9 going to Western Caribbean and I tend to get very seasick. I am wearing the patch (this is my 7th cruise), but I have been on really bad rough water and great water in the past. My cabin is midship, inside, on the deck below the pool (so farely high up, but got a great rate on it and got one of the oversized inside cabins right below the pool). I know in bad weather any ship will move, but is the Grand reallt THAT bad?

Need a little reassurance? :grin

1. You have a very good cabin location. Yes, it's a bit high, but at least it's midship.

2. My mom had a mid-ship cabin on the Emerald Deck. Her cabin hardly moved while ours on the aft was swaying, pitching and was incredibly noisy.

3. You've got "the patch". Those things work great!

4. If you've been through bad weather before, you should be fine. It seems to be the wind that is the main culprit, not the waves, IMO.

After all these fears, remember that the ship won't be taken into risky weather. No Capt. is going to risk an expensive ship if he wishes to remain a Capt. :grin

No, the Grand isn't "THAT" bad, but it is definitely worse than others, IMO. Nothing is worse than to be told everything is perfect and wonderful and then to get the shock of your life when it isn't. Go expecting the worst and I betcha you'll be VERY pleasantly surprised! :) :) :)

We are on the Aloha Deck, but it was worth it because we paid less than the lowest deck and got the bigger room (182 square feet versus their normal 160). I know how small those rooms can be so if you have the chance to get some more square footage......

i am sure the rocking, swaying, etc will not be anywhere as bad as my Nordic Empress (a small ship) experience in 13 foot swells during a lightning storm at sea. That was awful.

RNS,
You should not worry. My husband and I got a cabin on the Grand's Aloha deck aaaaaalll the way to the back of the ship and the sea was a little rougher than our previous cruise where we were approximately midship on Emerald deck. It was perfectly fine (my husband is kind of sensitive when it comes to motion and he didn't feel bad at all). And you have your patch so... enjoy.

I can't wait. This will be my 7th cruise, but I get a little nervous about the seasickness bit whenever I book. I have been sick before even with the patch (my last cruise), but we had 13 foot swells which explains a lot. I still had a good time thoguh because I cannot let stuff like that ruin my vacation. Thank you.

Was on the Dawn in Jan. and felt VERY little movement but the seas were calm also. Agree that its dependent on the amount of movement felt individually as each person differs in regards to motion sickness / movement. Can NOT hurt to take along some Bonine just in case. :thumb
