I was just wondering if there were particular cruise lines or ships where the ship's officers dine with the passengers. When I cruised on Princess in Personal Choice dining this didn't happen. Anybody have any info???

HAL provides Officers to dine with passengers on formal nights if your table is not full. On our cruise on the Maasdam, we had an Officer dine with us, as we were seated at a table for eight, and there were only seven passengers. Then on the Rotterdam, we had a full table for eight, but tables that were not full had Officers. We were lucky enough on the Rotterdam to dine at the Captain's table during the Suite dinner. Before Freestyle on NCL we also dined with the Officers on the Dream and on the Norway. HAL seems to be the most consistant though with providing Officers to join passengers, and the Officers always provide the wine at the table, aother nice plus.

Yes. We have enjoyed many a dinner shared with Officers aboard HAL ships.
Obviously, there are not enough Officers on any ship to be able to have one at every table....early and late seating...but on formal nights, you will find many of these delightful ladies and gentlemen in their starched whites, joining various tables for dinner.

My favorite story about dining with the officers was on a Caribbean cruise several years ago. The ship's officer was a pleasant young man - and "Pam" -a teacher, did admirably at visiting with him. Our table of 6 [ who had NOT known each other prior to the cruise -3 couples but got along wondefully well ] thought she had done extremely well. On the second formal night -here came the same ship's officer -and a look of total horror on Pam's face "I can't "she wailed " I just CAN'T -I told him EVERYTHING I EVER knew on the FIRST night!" So we quickly shifted places and someone ELSE took on the ship's officer!! Since then we've been lucky enough to sit with several officers; its fun AND informative........and HE/she supplies the wine!!!!!! ;-)

On Maasdam, our officer never showed up...Got called back to work, I suppose, but the 10 of us didn't care....We still got to drink all his wine! :D Not a bad deal, and he had picked out some seriously GOOD wine, too! We started to say no, and Bambi, our wine steward (and a wonderful man), insisted that it was a gift and we should enjoy it. That was a great night, with many toasts to our missing host!

Bambi....What a terrrific veteran steward. He has been w/ HAL for many years and he has given us such wonderful service on many, many cruises. You put a smile on my face just mentioning his name. Isn't just the cutest guy?

I loved him! When we asked to have a table (all family) photo with him, he ran off and got his wine "spoon", hung it around his neck and grinned from ear to ear!
