Do you have to pay for ice cream on Princess?

Hi. I remember reading in Fodors cruise guide book that you had to pay for ice cream on Princess. Is this true?
My husband likes those soft-serve ice cream machines they have had on our previous cruises. (I'm only posting this because he's an ice-cream junkie)

What's the ice-cream situation on the Golden?

Thanks,

Marina

They have soft-serve ice cream for free by the buffet. Can't remember the time, think it was around or after lunch.

I think I may be mistaken on my original post reply. They have ice cream in the buffet area in the afternoon, but now that I think about it, I can't say it was soft-serve for sure.

The ice cream in the dining rooms is made by Princess on the ship and is free. The ice cream in the ice cream shop is NOT made by Princess and does have a charge for it. In other words if you want ice cream with your meal it is free otherwise it will cost you.

Free ice cream in the afternoon in the Horizon court and free with dinner. The specialty ice cream that has a stand out by the pool is what there is a charge for.

On the Caribbean Princess last month they had free ice cream in Horizon every afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m, just on one side (the side that didn't stay open with food). They always had at least 4 flavors, with lots of toppings. It isn't soft serve out of a machine. It's not advertised at all, it wasn't in the Princess Patters when we were on board. Not too far away was their not-free ice cream shop--more flavors available, but all of them are made on the ship--and they have different sundaes available for different prices. It, too, wasn't soft serve. We always waited until 3:30 to have ice cream or had it in the dining room with meals for free. Seems kind of silly to pay for it--there's enough extra charges on board. But we were all teens or older, so we could wait for our ice cream--I can understand how having little kids might put you in a "can't wait" situation. BTW, you CAN fit tea in at 3:30, then go for ice cream.
