Do You Set Goals?? Not daily chores but Big goals

If so, how big are they? When I was first marrid and barely making ends meet, I said that someday I wanted to do an Ocean Cruise, do something in the Alps and attend a real Octoberfest in Munich. Having done those, Karen and I keep setting new goals as time goes on.

Right now, we are completing a 2-story add-on to the front of our house. This was a dream for a long time until last yar when we set it as a goal. In the background is the goal to do something below the equator; Peru, Australia, Rio - who knows.

How about you? Do you set goals??

Wow, Bibb, How great that you were able to make those trips. And now, you have some even better to look forward too.

I guess I do set goals too, but maybe more short term. One thing that DH & I wanted to see was both of our kids in positions where they could support themselves.

When I got cancer, I was so afraid that I wouldn't live to see my kids grow up. Here I am now, feeling much better, because now I know that if something happens to us, they will do just fine. They both turned out to be independent and I'm so happy about that.

Maybe I should set one of those goals for Australia, because I'd love to go there someday.

Good question, Bibb! (and maybe you could share some photos of that new addition when you get time???)

Great question...we do set BIG Goals.. when Mark and I got married 9 years ago.. FIRST big goal get 4 girls graduarted from high School in one year, then 4 years later get said 4 DD's graduated from college..done!!.. like Reggae..safe to be self support..next get DS Stephen out of High School, then college.. almost there...:)

next...Mark wants to retire in 9 years..NOT me.. but then we'd have his retirement, and me working ( hopefully cut down to 3 days a week..)..

Next BIG Goal three years ago..buy our "retirement house".. we did that..next step.PAY IT Off in under 12 years.. that's getting done!!....
.pave driveway, done, do windows and siding ( next year).. buy appliances, replace carpet, new furnace, and roof in the next 9 years.. it's all coming to plan, and working....but it is some here, some there..
as My late Grama, and even Momma now say.. "Joanne-hard work never killed anyone".. and they are oh so right..... and if my doing extra now gets all that accomplished, with travel thrown in as we can.. .. then it was ALL worth it.. my huge hoped for wish list travel plans are Down Under, Hawaii ,Alaska, and return to Europe..

to me Goals set and met are are sign of a mature person working to make life better.. and what better way can one have of affirming you are trying to do good in life.. Thanks for showing me Bibb, that our generation seems to have a handle on what it takes to keep on a 'goin, and getting there too!!..:)..PS.. Happy house finishing..=hugs..Joanne

reggae,

Having cancer, I'm sure, has put a hold on many things for you but I am glad you are doing better. And I hope you get to do everything you wish. Every time I read someone's post, I see the Mark Twain quote, "Explore, Dream, Discover." and I start thinking of all the things I want to do so Goals, maybe dreams sometimes, just come naturally.

Here are 3 pictures of our addition.

.

Our biggest goal right now is retiring in a couple of years; sell the house & business, and buy a motorhome to do the BIG TRIP around our beautiful country. No time limit, just explore until we are tired of it.

Bibb, thanks for sharing the pics of your home addition.

Have many goals ... Among them -

To die quiet and peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather;
not yelling and screaming, like his passengers!

Wow Bibb, quite a big addition! Looks great so far, and going to be nice when it's done.

Are you going to be finishing it with siding? You may already know, but they have a vinyl siding that is backed with foam insulation that makes it more rigid and durable. It also helps a lot with insulating. We put it on our house, and love it!

I like the windows on the sides of the front door too. Nice.

We too set goals. They get bigger when all of sudden the "life is short" bug crawls up our butts.

As I get older the more we all need goals-something to look forward to and plan toward. Just looking forward to the next group cruise is my goal now and to the next.

Yup my goal is to be ready for retirement in 10-12 years. I don't want to work the last years of my life away.

A short term goal is to get my kidlets to disney 2 summers out. With four kids flying is tough and expensive, so we are planning on a drive. With 3 drivers it won't be too bad I've done it myself before. And Audra has a big Excursion so we will all fit just fine with a luggage carrier ontop.

Our goals were slightly changed in 1994 when I got sick and could no longer work. But we have since been on 12 cruises and bought a small house. Now our hopes are to stay healthy and enjoy the kids and grandkids.
We had hoped to see New Zealand and Australia but have run out of money and the energy to go that long a distance.

We live for goals. :thumb The one at the very top of my list is to see Italy. We're planning that for October of 2010. :)
