Does Anyone Fondue?

We decided to stay home and I got this brainy idea to fondue. I have 2 fondue pots and got them out. Never used them before. There are no directions. I assumed the burners would hold a sterno can but when I looked at them they have something in them. One looks like a screen with insulation and the other has a screen with something else under it. You are not able to open it up.

Any ideas of what I am supposed to do with this???

Sometimes you can look up the make and model on-line and view a manual for the product. Sorry I can't help with info either but fondueing is such fun, I hope you get the info you need.

Your fondue burner needs to have denatured alcohol as opposed to a sterno can....I think! This site might help.

Are you planning on doing a cheese fondue or a meat fondue?? If you are using meat and will be heating oil just DO NOT HEAT THE OIL WITH THE LID ON THE POT!!! Huge fire hazard! Do not use the pots anywhere near curtains or anything else that might catch fire. Have your fire extinguisher handy. You will not likely need it but better safe than sorry! I know about this because I watched the draped go up in flames at an Officer's Mess one evening when Fondue was the meal of choice!

Fondue is special and fun! Give it a try and enjoy. Just be careful!

OK, I have the denatured alcohol. We are doing a cheese fondue, a broth type for the meats and then a chocolate. we usually go to the Melting Pot for fondue but I thought this would be something interesting for staying at home. Hopefully I won't burn the house down!

I was going to recommend the Melting Pot. Really great place to eat, but the smell of all those fires gets to me.

We use oil (carefully) we cook steak and I have batter mixed for Mushrooms and onions. YUM! When I saw your post I thought "Darn!" we should have planned on that for tonight. Enjoy!

We are going about an hour away for dinner tonight with friends. We should be home before the bad weather starts.

Connie, we love the Melting Pot. That is where we went last New Year's Eve and we hosted our 25th wedding anniversary there back in March.

Did they use to use open flames there? They now have smooth top burners built into the table. I think there is a heavy aroma from all the cooking pots though. I can see if you are sensitive to odors it could be overwhelming.
