Does Celebrity offer a "quieter" cruise?

Only one other cruise, a 4-nighter on RCCL on the Monarch. Our next cruise is totally different... a 10-nighter to Alaska on the Infinity. Will this cruise be different "on board"? I know we'll have some at-sea days, but what else will be different?

I'm really looking forward to having some at-sea days. On the Monarch, all 3 days were port-intensive, and so there really was no time to enjoy the ship. We had a late dinner seating, and by the time dinner was over, we were exhausted! But this time we have early seating. Is that a mistake for Alaska? Does the destination make a difference in the preferred seating time?

Gees, I thought after my first cruise I wouldn't have any new questions, but I sure do!

Hi Glorya,

The general layout of the Monarch and the Infinity are very different. Better traffic patterns and larger public spaces of the Millennium class ships result in a minimum of crowding, and in general, a more relaxed atmoshere aboard. In addition, the Monarch carries more passengers who may be trying to cram a full range of activities into a three or four day vacation. The dining room will really amaze you, with a large amount of glass, and views, and the spacious feeling of the two level open areas. The theater is also a very large open venue (not a single post to impact the sight lines) that has great sound, lighting and comfortable seating. The Windjammer buffet is on a single level with excellent traffic patterns and much more comfortable seating arrangements. There will usually be a moderate wait for cooked to order omelets and waffles, but they are well worth the short wait. The only problem we found with the complementary sushi offerings was the times of service. For an early diner the 6:00p to 9:00p sushi bar just doesn't work, but for the late seating it is a great place for a snack before dinner.

I believe that the service and food is a bit higher level than the RCI offerings in general. But I should qualify that by saying that we have been very pleased with our four cruises on the Monarch since it has been sailing out of San Pedro, and we will continue to sail the Monarch for the wonderful four day itinerary. The RCI Legend class ships were our favorites until we sailed on the Millennium which we thought was a perfect fit for what we wanted in a cruise. We are now booked for our fourth Millennium class cruise, on the Constellation in May for a Baltic Sea cruise. If you enjoyed your Monarch experience you are going to a really great time on the Infinity.

Thanks Peter! I knew the Monarch was a smaller, older ship when we first boarded her. But I got lost several times, and the thought occured to me recently that I might get lost on the Infinity, never find my way back to the stateroom, and appear on this site as a "did you hear that GloBug vanished on the Infinity" thread! LOL!

I'm really looking forward to spending 10 whole days on a ship! OMG! I can't believe it. I'm going on another cruise, to ALASKA!!!

I think I'm getting excited!

We've cruised on both ships and they are both great...but...the Infinity is by far the better of the two. The food it better, the service is better, and you will love it. There will be very few announcements and no hustling to "buy this, or buy that." I can't think of anything bad to say about the Monarch, it's wonderful, but the Infinity is even better. You'll also love the extra time crusing. Have fun.

We sailed to Alaska on the Infinity in August. What a trip! It was by far the best of our cruises. Everything was just as it is on a Caribbean cruise (even with the Jamaican steel drum band playing by the pool albeit with coats and gloves on!) but with gorgeous scenery. As we were laying out by the pool sunning ourselves in bathing suits we saw beautiful mountain ranges passing by instead of just miles and miles of ocean. Instead of sherbet being passed out by the pool, the waiters were passing out bread bowls filled with hot, steaming soup as well as hot chocolate. It was fantastic. We are already planning another cruise to Alaska in 2006 to do some more indepth exploring -- probably a 14 day.

WOW! This sounds like it's going to be even harder to come home from than the Monarch! I've suffered PCD for months now, and it started the evening we disembarked!
