MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:
MSC Cruisesis delighted to announce a further double guarantee of quality and food safety with regard to its offering in the cruise market. The MSC Group's catering subsidiary, MSC Italcatering, has earned independent certification according to international standards ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management and ISO 9001 for Quality Management.
With this latest significant achievement, MSC Cruises now boasts a comprehensive set of food safety and quality management certifications, covering the entire cycle of food provision to guests on its cruise ships, including both onshore and onboard elements.
This significant achievement represents official recognition of the major reorganization of MSC Italcatering's internal structure and procedures, undertaken with the objective of ensuring the highest possible standards and delivering continuous improvements.
As part of the certification process, food preparation procedures have been improved and standardized, potential hazards have been analysed and a policy of ongoing food safety training for both land-based and sea-based personnel has been established.
A total of 320 procedures, manuals and operating instructions have been standardized.
Over 3000 recipes have been recorded in a central system, standardized and analyzed for food safety issues, allergies and intolerances.
Over 3500 crew members involved in food preparation across the fleet have received extensive HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) training.
In the words of Mr Enrico Borniotto, General Manager of MSC Italcatering, "Our success in obtaining this double certification is the result of excellent cooperation throughout the MSC group and outstanding commitment from all members of the MSC Italcatering team. - 70% of MSC Italcatering employees have completed food safety training on HACCP and US/EU public health standards.
- 17 employees have successfully completed the ISO 22000 auditor course to become Internationally Certified Food Safety professionals.
