Anyone have any information on Doctors Cave Beach? Due to all the problems with Jamaica, we were planning on just going there to hang out and then to Margarittaville. Do they have any para-sailing or snorkerling there? Can we walk from Montego Bay cruise dock? How far is it? We will be cruising on the Conquest 1/25/04..any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Suzanne

Hello, I have never been to Dr. Cave beach but I went to Margaritaville last time I was in Jamacia. JMHO I think Jamacia is scary. When we were there, there were military guys walking around the streets with machine guns. Just not my style, I guess. We did hang out at Margaritavill for a while, but there is not much to do there. A gift shop, a bar / resturaunt, and then there is the ocean. I did not see anyone snorkling, infact, there is no beach, just a sort of shakey metal ladder leading down the side of a cliff, directly into the ocean. In the ocean, there is a giant trampoline and some anchored innertubes. Overall, safer than most places in Jamacia, and a good time for a while. Email me with any questions, and have fun on the cruise!

You can not walk anywhere from the dock other than the few shops in the terminal.

Do yourself a favor. Contact Carolyn Barrett at www.barrettadventures.com and have her pick you up at the terminal. Then take you to Rose Hall Beach for 3 to 4 hours. Then have her take you to a small craft market she knows (very safe). Then have her take you to a local jerk stand for late lunch. Then have her drive you to Margaritaville for some afternoon drinks and partying (maybe some swimming and bouncing on the giant tube trampolines. Then have Carolyn drive you back to the ship. (It's called the Tom Sodemann Itinerary!) Others have done it and have e-mailed me that they had a great time.

You will have a wonderful time and consider Jamaica your favorite port. Once you book with Carolyn, post your planned excursion itinerary on this website and ask for people to join you and split the cost. This same itinerary I just mentioned, cost me only $20 per person!

We were afraid of Montego Bay and considered not even getting off the boat because of all the bad posts on the internet. Then I found Carolyn, made the arrangements, found some takers on this web site in about 2 days. We met them on board and made some new friends as well. My family of 6 ranged in age from 14 to 48 and we all voted Montego Bay our favorite port. (and we loved Grand Cayman and Cozumel but Jamaica was the best because of Carolyn).

If you do meet her or her husband, tell them Tom says Hi.
