Just heard from NCL that the 6/6 Baltic cruise itinerary will be changing due to engine trouble.

The Norwegain Dream will not be calling in Tallin, Estonia, this port will not be replaced with any other port, just a sea day and a couple of extra hours in Copenhagen. This also changes the dates of arrival in all of the other ports. If you sailing on the Dream any time for the rest of the summer, please check with your travel agent and verify you Itenierary, it may have changed also.

This is especially important for anyone planning to use private tours in St. Petersburg, I have not yet heard from Red October regarding whether they can change the dates of our tour.

NCL did not alert us to the change, we had to call and ask them. We are only about a week away from our sail date and I am not sure if I will be able to change all of the tours we have arranged on our own. So this is a heads up warning for anyone sailing on the Dream for the rest of the summer, call and verify your itinerary now.

We are on the Dream next Jan. I hope they get this really fixed by then, it seems like I had read about engine problems on her before.

Mom, I think you may be right about the past engine trouble, but the good news is you won't be doing such an extentive cruise as those doing Europe this summer plus I beleive she will go into dry dock for awhile. Hopefully she will anyway. NMNita

When is she scheduled for dry dock? Friends want us to book a trip next January 2005 but I am reluctant b/c of all I've heard about her engine problems.

The Dream was initially going into dry dock after returning to Miami in late September, but before New Orleans...now (according to my friend who works on the Dream) the Dream will go into Dry dock, before leaving Europe, and before heading back across the Atlantic....I don't know what month, but before September journeys back across...

I just checked the "News" section on NCL's website, and guess what? There's no mention of the engine problem on the Dream. A report I saw on a maritime news website says that the ship has been operating on less than full power since March, when a broken crankshaft put one of the main engines out of commission.

It says that a new crankshaft has been ordered, but that doesn't make me feel much better. I fear that NCL will put off any repairs until the end of their European season in September. If so, it looks like our Baltic cruise this summer on the Dream will be slow and probably incomplete. Some scheduled ports are already being bypassed.

Let's hope that none of the other engines fail before NCL gets around to fixing the broken one.

Update: I just spoke with NCL's "Marine Operations" dept. in Miami, and was told as follows: Repairs to the faulty engine are "continuing" while the ship is underway. The man said nothing about "drydocking" and could not give me a forecast as to when repairs might be completed.

Earlier in the day, I had spoken to another NCL representative (in "Reservations") who advised me (after consulting with her supervisor) that the ship "will be drydocked for engine repairs in late July or early August", at which time the ship would resume her normal Baltic itinerary.

Unfortunately, as of today NCL still hasn't posted any information on its website. At first, one of the people I spoke with told me that there was no update to the info on the website. She seemed shocked when I advised her that the website was silent on the subject. I'm not certain whom to believe at this point, but I sure wish they'd get their stories straight! Would somebody care to contact NCL and see if you can get any better info than I received? Thanks.
