Dressing Modestly & Prayer...question

Hello,

My husband and I are very conservative Christians. Many mistake us for Mennonites (we are Brethren) because of DH's beard and my prayer covering.

I wear jumpers or cape dresses - would that be okay to wear at dinner (especially formal nights)?

Also, DH and I do say prayer before our meals. We can pray in our room then offer a silent thanks at the table if necessary, but it would be SO much easier (and better for us) if we had a table on our own. We are thinking about the Inspiration or the Valor - do either of these have seating for 2?

Thank you so much!

Lord Bless,
Zebulun

I dont know if either of those two ships have tables for two in the dining room. When you book your cruise your TA will be able to find out for you and request a table for two. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Carnival has the most laxed dress code. Please excuse my ignorance regarding religion but if your religious beliefs require your attire to be a jumper or cape dresses than I would hope that Carnival would allow you in the dining room on formal night. Casual nights you will be fine. That is JMO, but then again I am the fashion police worse nightmare.

If the formal night expereince is not important to you, Carnival also has the lido restaurant option or room service.

I can vouch for the Valor having tables for 2... although there were very few of them they did exist.

Hello
Have not been on here for a while, but had to respond.. Why would you not be able to pray at your dinner table? Don't worry what others think, do what is best for you! - Is it a problem if you had to share your table and other passengers are drinking alcohol?
If anyone is going to say anything, which i doubt, it would be the maitre'd.. Just explain to him it is a religous observance.

Enjoy your cruise!

I can't imagine any one saying anything if you want to pray before your meal in the dining room. We have people at work that pray before they eat their meal in the break rooms and no one minds at all. Matter of fact if you were seated at my table with me or I at your table, not only would it be ok, but I would probably join you. I think most of my friends would do the same.

Enjoy your cruise.

My husband ALWAYS prays before our meals. The only comments ever made to us were positive...reinforcing what was being done publically.
GOD bless you....never compromise your beliefs! Enjoy your cruise....we go again in December!

Zebulun,

My husband and I were on the Miracle last month and we prayed before each meal whether it was in the dining room or on the Lido deck from the buffet. I'm didn't notice any odd looks and I know that nobody commented to us about it. Please don't change your prayer habits because of the cruise. To me it is a way of witnessing to others. I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Our family always says Grace. Most of the times, we are at a table for four... but when we were seated with others...
we would simply say Grace before the others arrived. If they were already seated, we would simply say..."excuse us for
just a minute, please" and then say Grace and continue on with the meal.

It has never been an issue.

Your dress will be fine as well. (even on formal night) Not a problem!!!

Have a wonderful cruise!

It is typical for my wife and I to pray over our food when dining. The only time it is "odd" is when you are in the middle of a conversation with other table-mates and you need to stop and pray.
On one cruise, we were sitting in a booth with another couple, meeting them for the first time, when some food (maybe our appetizers) was delivered. Both couples paused, then bowed our heads to pray. As we realized the other couple was preparing to pray we realized we had a "kindred spirit".
We have been great friends ever since. We live about seven hours apart and our families continue to vacation together.
Shortly after that cruise they found out their young daughter had a type of cancer. Needless to say, many prayers were said and the girl was healed. I know God brought us together ON A CRUISE SHIP! :D
Pray on, sister and let God open the doors.

And I say THIS with the utmost respect... Modest is "hottest".

We sat with a pastor and his wife on one cruise - table for 10. They just quietly prayed together while the rest of us chatted away. I wish they would have asked if the rest of us would join them...but they didn't. They weren't at dinner every night and often came in late. If someone at your table (should you not get one for two) has a problem with it check with the Maitre'd to see if any other tables are available. As long as you aren't in shorts, I don't think they'll turn you away from the dining room....even on formal/elegant night.

I have found that after ten cruises everyone we have met is kind and tolerant. Do what you do normally and enjoy your cruise. Cruising is a wonderful way to get to know others as well as for them to get to know you which always makes for a better understanding of each other. I know you would be welcomed at our table any time!

A point was brought up about others that might prefer a cocktail or glass of wine for diner if you might find that offensive you may want to ask your Mater D' to see if they can find you a seat with non drinkers. Whatever the case I am positive you will have a delightful time

I would not care in the slightest what anyone thought of me if I wanted to pray before my meal! Do as you feel in your heart. As a matter of fact, my husband and I have started to say a pray the moment we first enter our cabin for the first time that we will have a SAFE trip and that the ship will be safe and all the people on board will be safe. We do the same when we board an airplane! Travel these days REQUIRES prayer in my opinion! :) I am not ashamed of my belief and neither should you be.

As .long as the other people at the table are allowed to enjoy their meal I see no problem with either your prayer or your clothing. The problem may be with the other people at the table (hint - don't sit with me), who may be a bit too sacrilegious for your comfort.

Zebulun,

My wife and I always pray at table whether by ourselves or at a large table and have never had negative comments. Several times it has led to wonderful conversations with newly met believers and opportunities to share and learn throughout the cruise.

Please be open to The Lords guidance and you may be shown opportunities to do His will and work and wouldn't that be a perfect vacation!

Enjoy and be blessed.
