Is it necessary to purchase the drink / pop cards for a cruise?? I thought that drinks (non-alcohol type) were included, or was that just for the meals? We're new to cruising and just booked out first cruise this December on Freedom o/t Seas.

Thank you. Looking at RC's web site, drink cards are $6.45/day per adult. What's the cost of a pop on board? Not that the kids drink a lot of pop, they prefer iced tea, lemonade instead, but sometimes just for a change....

to make a soda card worth it,you'd have to drink at least 4 sodas a day......

You can get free lemonade/iced tea in the WJ and at dinner(well, iced tea at least)

If you take me serious, it's your problem
one can easily drink 4-6 sodas a day on a cruise... especially if they spend much time on the pool decks. However like PH8 said, tea, lemmonade and occasionally fruit punch are available in the WJ cafe, and are also available in the solarium where the buffet is set up in the evenings...

So if your family really doesn't consume much soda, then you shouldn't need a beverage package. However... if you decide you might want soda, then you could get yourself a beverage package and let the kids use your mug when they want a soda... that way you could purchase one beverage package and share it thus reducing the cost of beverages to make a one beverage package more economical..

Although i don't think RCCL would appreciate you doing this.. it's not as if they really check your sea pass for the bev package... the mug usually denotes that you have a bev package.. and if there was any question your child can always say they are getting it for their parent..

Anyhow... you do have options, and i am sure you can be creative if need be.. I will say though, the beverage packages and wine packages are one way for the cruise line to make money. Since stateroom prices are low, and fuel prices are up they gotta make money somehow right ????

Not going to get into the sharing idea:cool:,but wanted to say,you do not have to use the mug they give you.......gets to be a pain to carry it with you all over..............all you need is your seapass with the soda sticker on it.......

If you purchase, you get a 12 oz can for around $2.10 (w/tip). There's where we're getting the 4+ sodas per day. If you use the card, you only get a 6 oz fountain drink, on the rocks; so, you'd actually need 8+ fountain drinks to equal 4 cans ...

Considering that hot coffee, iced coffee, hot tea, iced tea, fruit juices, milk and water are free .... we forego the card and buy direct, when we really NEED a soda. Actualy save in the long run.

Younger folks (especially teenagers) drink a lot of soda. For them, the card is your best bet.

Thanks to all for the great replys...since the kids don't drink a lot of Coke, I'll skip the drink cards and let them get one if thet feel like it...they usually prefer the lemonades, iced teas anyways.

Thanks again.

I'm gonna throw my info into the ring too here even though you seem to have your answer. My first cruise I was around 20 years old and drank a lot of coke or pepsi back then and my parents and I didn't get a pop package. I went 5 nights without it. And this is coming from someone who drank it A LOT at the time. There is enough free stuff to tide you over.
