Drink Vouchers

My wife and I just returned from an 11 night 'Extended Caribbean' cruise on the Celebrity ship Summit. This was our third cruise on Celebrity and the experience was terrific, as usual. My question pertains to 'drink vouchers' that I noticed many passengers used to purchase alcoholic drinks. The vouchers allowed the bearer to purchase any drink (not exceeding $6.50) at any bar, and pay only the 15 pct service charge. One passenger told me that about 300 people on board ( from the New York City area) were using the vouchers, which I believe were provided by their travel agency and seemed unlimited in number. Considering the usual cost of a drink, this seems to be 'to good to be true', but I'd like to know more. Thoughts anyone?. thanks.

This sounds like a special deal for that group arranged by their TA. My guess is that folks were given the option of buying drink vouchers at a certain rate and that somehow the TA squared this with the ship. The only "drink cards" I've seen are those soft drink cards (no cans just fountain drinks and only one drink per person per card at a time). These have been escalating in price (maybe because the lines have realized that one family member buys a card and others take turns using it or maybe the cost of Coke has skyrocketed). :wave

If groups of 50 can buy these drink cards or vouchers --
then would two of our roll call groups (25 each) be eligible??
Why not>

Cause that would be almost $800.00 (US) including tips for booze for me and the boss on a 7 day cruise and we usually go for 14 days.
And we haven't ordered wine yet.......
lol.
