Been a long time since we have been on the Elation, but non the less it is a standard Fantasy class ship so Upper Deck with porthole would have to be extreme bow and if I remember would also be classed as an inside cabin even though it has a view for one. You  mention that you have cruised before but have you ever cruised in a bow cabin?

First off, plan on feeling the waves if the sea gets a little choppy, second even if the sea is rolling plan on going up and down a lot, third don't plan on sleeping in on port days, the bow thrusters are better than fifty cents in a magic fingers bed.

But to answer your question, spring for ocean view especially if it is anywhere in the middle two thirds of the ship. In all honesty for me it would be a no brainer choice.
