I was on Carnival Elation in July 2010 and enjoyed it. We didn't find it smoky at all, other than the one lounge in which smoking was permitted, but that's to be expected. There were plenty of smoke-free venues we could go to if it bothered us. (I can't comment on the casino, though.)We've been on many cruises in the past 21 years, including several on HAL and Celebrity, and still enjoy Carnival. The ship is due for a drydock, as bOB mentioned, to add a water park and more balcony cabins, yet she appeared to be in fine shape when we were onboard.
