Have just been upgraded to balcony on the port side of emerald deck. Is it true that people walk right in front of your balcony or is it below your balcony?

If it's one of the cabins at the bow (E202-E208) you probably will not be happy with it. I pasted below from a post I wrote a while ago... someone asked the same question. The people walking by are below, but transition up as they go up the stairs. These cabins are often upgrades because people don't usually book them.

----------------------

They are nice cabins with a big balcony... but the problem with these cabins is that the balcony is fully covered and doesn't look down over the ocean, as it is fairly far inboard from the side of the ship. The balcony sits out along the little section of the promenade where it transitions up from the Promenade deck. What this results in is a pretty significant lack of privacy as people walk up the little set of stairs headed for the front of the Emerald deck where the promenade circles the bow. They are VERY close... people could shake hands with you over the balcony rail as they walk by. I've never stayed in one, but every time I sail on the Grand I make a mental note not to, as I personally would not enjoy that interaction. It depends on what you like though, I always notice that the people in those cabins are often chatting with the pedestrians... so if you like that you may enjoy it, but if you don't you may want to verify what I've stated here and possibly rearrange the upgrade so as not to ruin your vacation.

Surprisingly, many people try to get these cabins and mark themselves "no upgrade." They like the covered, oversized balconies and don't feel the lack of privacy is an issue. At night, the stairs are closed off, so there's no issue then and during the day the glass is smoked. I'd probably not want one of them, but I wouldn't go into it if upgraded thinking I'd gotten something terrible.

I would not take Emerald Deck. Have been "upgraded" twice to this deck and hated it both time. Very noisey!

They appear to have a much larger balcony, but you will suffer with some lack of privacy, although, I wonder if it is any more 'less private' than the Dolphin Deck mini-suites that can be 'looked down on' (Same on Millennium Class ships with balconies that can be looked down on from above). One thing, you are sure not to get much sun on them.
