Enchantment of the Seas NOT so enchanting

a copy of the letter sent to RCCL via email today
I haved sailed 12 times in the past prior to
this cruise, My First time and probally last with RCCL.
my partner and I purchased this cruise for my mother and myself for my moms
Christmas gift.
we sailed on Feb 04, 2006 on the Enchantment of The Seas reservation Number
1195426.
I booked Directly thru RCCL and had nothing but trouble with making the
reservations. made the reservation over nighted the FULL amount of the
cruise which was received on a friday afternoon.
took til wednesday to be applied to my account when calling to be sure
payment was recieved after checking the deliveryu confirmation was told no
payment shown and they made it sound like I was lying about the delivery
information even after giving the supervisor the overnight delivery
information so she could check it herself.
recieved final payment reminder after payment sent and posted on my cruises
on your web site when called about this they stated they didnt recieve my
payment and the site was incorrect.after having to go thru the whole detail
again and giving them the delivery info they finally acknowledge the payment
paid in Full, no apology and lots of frazzeled nerves.
I took inside run of ship as I have done on my past 12 cruises and my mom on
her past 5 cruises. to my surprise recieved room assignment upon checking
web site several days later only recieving a 2 cat upgrade to a cat M 3513
while other cabin catagories where still available for sale thru out the
time prior to the cruise so run of ship was not really runof ship could of
booked that cat and paid the same amount so not really a saving. called
about it and was told cabins were assigned by the date of the payment being
recieved so the hold up on my payment could of resulted in a lower upgrade I
have never revieved less tahn a 4 cat upgrade and I understand thats the
chance you take with run of ship but with the starting problems I had with
the payment thought a higher cat uypgrade would of been a nice way to say we
are sorry for the mix up and please accept our appology which I NEVER
recieved a we sorry for the payment mix up.

I wasnt going to let this be a factor in our cruise since the purpose was to
enjoy time with my mother. Upon arrival to the Ship on the 4th of Feb and
entering our stateroom I found that the beds were placed together to form
one Queen size Bed. I figured this was a standard practice which was fine I
figured a call would take care of this. I called housekeeping and requested
that the beds me made up seperately upon returning the the room after the
muster drill we found the beds seperated as requested but with NO bed
spreads and already turned down for the night this being 5 pm or so .

the next day the beds were made in the morning but once again NO bed
Spreads, the glasses thet contained the remenants of the pina coladas in the
souvenier glasses were still in the bottom of the glasses and sitting onthe
dressing table in the room. that afternoon we finished a bag of chips we
purchased in FT Lauderdale and thew the bag in the trash can upon returning
to room after dinner and the show we noticed that the beds were truned down
but the chip bag was now on the floor by the trash can and not removed,
still NO bed spreads and the pina coladas still sitting in the glasses.
also noticed that in the hallway outside of our room remained two carts 24/7
which was NOT FOUND on other floors. one cart included rolls of toilet paper
kleenix boxes linen bags etc and the other cart covered with green canvas
which found out later conatined all the DIRTY Roomservice trays. at one
point the handle from this cart found its was onto the floor infront of our
door forcing others to walk over /around it housekeeping staff noticing it
and themselves walking over/around it.

by the 3rd day of the cruise and still NO bed spreads now a hlaf glass of
diet coke with lime from the night before still sitting on dressing table,
the Pina coladas still sitting on the tables with the addition of a flock of
fruit flies encircling it like vultures did I finally go to the Guest
relations desk to say something.
upon goiong to the Guest relations desk talking to a trainee called archie
or andrew and phillipean looking gentleman he said he would let house
keeping know. ( I finally found out that the person at guest relations NEVER
wrote down my concern via talking with customer service last week on the
phone and talking with JC) I was also asked by two members of the CD staff
(moose and Frank) how we were enjoying our cruise. I told him ok with the
exception of our cabin steward adn room. Moose stated he was heading for a
meeting with the head of Housekeeping took my room number and told me he
would adress it with him at the meeting. later that evening as my mother was
laying down in the room she asked me to get her a coke so I went to the
casino bar to grab her a coke. Upon returning to the room I noticed that
there was a gentleman from Housekeeping in the room talking to my mother
about the room. we told him about the lack of care given to the room the
fact that I found under the bed a coin from Belize which was from the prior
weeks cruise and the bed had been moved at least twice to put beds together
adn to seperate them again so no reason for coins to be under the bed if
cleaned properly.
we also stated to him that out of ALL the cruises we had been on this was
the First time we have never meet our cabin steward. he NEVER Introduced
himself to us the entire time of the cruise. I had to hunt him down on the
first day to hand him dry cleaning hoping he was our cabin steward went by
the picture in the cabin saw him in the halls often talking to another cabin
steward complaining about the people on the cruise his job the pay etc. they
stood in the middle of the hall way so a person had to ecuse himself to get
aropund them. upon excusing yourself to get aoround them was greated with a
grumble adn dirty look aswell as a disgusted sound as if we were
interuppting thier time. showing the gentleman the drinks glasses still
having liquids in tehm the fruit flies encircling the glasses . he stated he
would adress this with our cabin steward adn he would be sure to check back
with us prior to the end of the cruise to ensure all was taken care of.
well the glasses did get emptied and washed we did finally get bed spreads
but the one spread had a 6 inch slash in it as if a slasher flick was made
with it. very surprised for RCCL.
Unfornutly the room didnt get any better the string from the dry cleaners
remained on teh floor the entire time the Asst. Housekeeper NEVER returned
as promised and we still NEVER met the cabin steward but over heard him
talking about the assholes who complained about him in the hallway (NICE
TOUCH). made us feel real good.
my mother was going to book for the entire family which would of been 6
cabins a 7 night cruise on RCCL for christmas. upon the last night of the
cruise the cabin sittaution NEVER Being resolved she decided not to book
with RCCL and booked with NCL. we were also requested by my sister who is
partners in a marble company in Michigan who takes thiere sales staff and
crew between 15and 20 cabins on a trip or cruise yearly to check out RCL for
a cruise in 2007. after hearing our feedback from the cruise she has decided
not to give RCL the business if this is how people are treated.

the food in the dinning room was terrible the first night was the best but
even then the service and food poor. ordered two entree the server brought
BOTH meals to me at one time with NO LID thuis allowing the food to get cold
while I was eating my other entree adn allowing the item to dry out. this
practice was carried out through out the cruise finally had to ask the
server to leave the other entree covered while we ate our first meal so it
would stay half way warm. teh last night the table ordered the Onion Soup.
teh soup came out luke warm barely room temp sent the soup back the waitress
stated this is how the soup was given to her adn this is how she has to
serve it no apology or option for something else after that.
simply amazed on the poor quality of food after RCL was HIGHLY recommended
to us by past cruisers they were disappointed in hearing our bad experience
and was truly sorry.

I have already followed up witha call to parkwest at sea for the problems
with the art auctions which is usually a hilight of the trip and was
disappointed .

I filled out the comment card on the ship stated I wanted followup by RCCL
Directly nothing back from teh m so I called the customer service number
last week talked with JC told him the problems occured he gave a scripted
answer made it out to be that WE were being UNSANITARY for leaving the pina
coladas in the room. we have always on all other cruise lines had the room
steward clean out the glasses or remove them and leave fresh souvenier
glasses in thier place.
I under stand each cruise line is different but when we get poor service on
a cruise line that is suppose to represent the high standards that RCCL
claim to hold this trip fell WAY short.
never an apolgy was given to us must be w new thing to make the guest feel
they are wrong for complaining and that RCCL has nothing to apology for esp
since you already have our monies and the rest is just our bad luck.

I'd chalk that one up to experience and move on to another cruise line, if I were you. You will always be unhappy with RCCL from now on.

OHMY!! I tried to read your letter, but the run on sentences and grammar/punctuation errors were too much!! I sure hope this wasnt an exact copy of what you sent........

If you want to get someone's attention, you need to keep to it more concise and to the point..........

Besides that,I agree........perhaps RCCL is not for you..........it isnt for everyone...

Gee, I have NEVER left the glasses that are mine for the room steward to clean up. Always did that my self and put them away so no one would take them....... And if I drop something on the floor, I pick it up myself.
I agree, if that is the exact letter you sent, no wonder you did not get a response.
Go with another line, MAYBE you will get better service and maybe not. From what I have seen, RCI is the best around.

Sorry to hear you had such a poor experience. We've sailed RCI several times and have always had excellent service. It's a shame a poor employee can ruin an experience.

Sounds like your expectations were high going in though hoping to move up so many categories during prime sailing season.

Good luck with other lines, for me I'll stick with Royal.

Another fan of Royal Caribbean here too! I can understand some of your frustration but am with the others. I also clean out my own glasses and pick up things on the floor and to me it's not a big deal if the trash can has not been emptied if there are only 1 or 2 little things in the bottom of it. =huh I don't know exactly what the room stewards "have" to do but I'm sure they all oporate a little differently. On our first cruise our attendant "Cheri" was fantastic :thumb, very friendly and we saw her often, she would bleach off the balcony daily. 2nd time around I couldn't even tell you her name. :S We saw her periodically but nothing like Cheri, still things were straightend up and the bed turned down. We didn't let this eat at us or ruin our trip and as far as the bedspreads go.....I think most will tell you they take them off anyway. Just like in hotels, they are not often washed. Hopefully you will continue to cruise, just maybe with another line. Still, hopefully one unhappy experience won't keep you from trying RCCL once more, I think you may be pleasantly surprised. (tu)

I tend to agree with the concensus. Although I have never had a "perfect" cruise experience, RCCL has always been pretty darn close, and they are "perfect" for me.

I'm with the rest of the crowd. Go where you're happy, and don't give it a second thought. As for me, I'll be happy to go back with Royal C.

I am trying to figure out just what you are really complaining about. Bedspreads?, glasses? (that you should have rinsed out yourself) Stateroom? (pay the bucks and book the room you want) We have been on 12 RCL cruises and have never had a problem. If something bothers us, we get over it and move on. I will not let anything trivial ruin my cruise. Sorry that you discouraged a large group from booking, they are missing out on an excellet cruise line.

Let me preface this comment by saying I have never been on a cruise. I do have one planned with RCI in May on the Navigator OTS though. My first impression of your letter is that you let little things get to you too much. My second impression I got is that you thought since you were on a cruise that your hands no longer could function... You complained that a glass was not cleaned out for three days resulting in flies, did it ever occur to you to dump the drink down the sink yourself? You complained that a string was on the floor all week, honestly this would not bother most people, but if it bothered you that much you could have bent over and picked it up yourself.
As far as the food. It is being fixed for thousands of people. So while I hope I will enjoy it, I am smart enough to know it will not be gormet. And if your second entee was getting cold I can think of two options: 1) order just one entree, your pants will thank you. or 2) order the second one after you finish the first.
OK i am not stupid I understand that you were upset in general that your Cabin boy did not perform as well as you wanted him to, but to say that all RCI trips must be bad because you got one bad employee is just silly. From what I understand most are fantastic.
Now obviously i do not know you at all so all of this next comment is pure speculation: If you went onto this ship upset, because they did not upgrade you... excuse me they did upgrade you, just not as much as you expected, (BTW I dont expect to get upgraded, but I will be thrilled if I do)... You may have been just looking for more things to complain about. I have seen it before some people just want to find things wrong with everything.
My last comment is you will never be respected if you communicate with customer relations, or anybody for that matter, in the manner you did above. Typos happen I know, but wow not usually in every other word. And while your money issue sounds like a legitimate complaint, surrounding it with trivial nonsense make your entire story trivial. My recomendation: Relax, if you let things like this get to you, you will never enjoy life. Oh and dont sail RCI, I don't think I could handle a whiner like you on the same ship as me.... ok sorry that was mean.

Proper grammar and syntax will go a LONG way towards reaching a goal of an amicable settlement of your issue.

Now, having stated that, one has to wonder if the same unpleasantness and overall vitriol this person seems to exhibit was demonstrated to the staff of the ship(?) I too was on this same ship and voyage, and I must say I found the overall experience to be top-notch! My girlfriend and I and another couple had balcony cabins on Deck 7 that were always, ALWAYS kept spotless by our room steward Johnny.
Any request we made of him was always met with a quick and positive response, and this same attention to our needs was met by every member of the Enchantement's crew.
As for the food being "terrible", one can only speculate on what would have satisfied this person, as both myself and my girlfriend, as well as our friends (and seemingly, by the comments we overheard, everyone else on the ship!) found the food to be delightful. Each night was a delicious and new entree with several available alternate selections, complimented by an extensive wine list. And the selection in the Windjammer buffet-style restaurant were every bit as enjoyable.

The excursions we chose could only have been made more enjoyable by more favorable weather (where WAS that much-vaunted Caribbean sun?) but even with that factored in we were very satisfied and happy. Even a several-hour long delay getting into Jamaica (our ship had to render aid to a distressed vessle in the middle of the night) was countered by the captain holding the ship over in port past the original departure time, in order to give the passengers as much time to enjoy their shore excursions as possible.

The entertainment on the ship was exceptional, and I found even my own, jaded and hard-to-please self pleasantly surprised by the various entertainers.

So, to sum it all up, it is hard to believe that the original poster was actually on the same ship as I! Perhaps that old adage of "you get back what you give" was shown to be true here.
I know that my girlfriend and I have already planned to sail many, many more times with Royal Caribbean.

I love RCCL. The food is always above par and the crews are great. Although I am sure there are bad eggs even on RCCL, to base your entire experience on one event is a bit limiting.. It also sounds like by day 2, you were no longer going to enjoy the cruise no matter the treatment then started looking for examples of problems. I also agree with the other poster, About half the time I cruise, the steward would clean my glasses. The other half I do it myself. When they do get clean, thats the mark of a steward that deserves a good tip. I hope you got your frustrations out with this post. If you think NCL will be better, good luck to you.

It seems to me that you will have a bad time on any cruise ship. You need to accept things as they are. I do not feel that your complaints are justified. I can also agree with other poster's that the gramatical errors in your letter was the reason you did not receive a response. How can you expect the cruise line to take you seriously when you do not have the skills to even write a simple business letter.

I am a big fan of RCCL and cruise them by choice. Not all my sailings have been perfect. I just do not allow the trivial things in life interfere with having a good time.

I for one am glad you will cruise another line for future cruises.

Hi to everyone,

I have been on the Enchantment in the past, in fact it was the ship where I took my first cruise. I had a great time and would recommend it. I have also sailed on Carnival and I would never do that again. In general, and this is only my opinion. the service on RCCL is a million times better than on Carnival and most of the other lines. I think sometimes passengers can get a little too upset and hung up on things that just take away from the experience......go there enjoy it, relax, be thankful you aren't at work.....and just let it all go....

have a great time in your upcoming cruises to those that are going.

bye.
