Evening in San Juan, what happens on the ship?

Hi Everyone, Hubby and I will be cruising on the Triumph in a few weeks. Presently looking at the list of excursions for our stop in San Juan. There really isn't much to pick from, most probably due to the fact that we are only there in the evening.

The excursions listed all sound boring so, I'm wondering what will be happening on the ship that evening ? Has any one been on the Triumph lately who can tell if they will have the usual evening entertainments onboard?

I'm afraid they won't have much happening, thinking everyone will be out and about town for the evening.

Never been there in the evening on a cruise Gayle but have been there on business and there are some nice restaurants or U could go to one of the casinos if that is your cuppa tea. Beware that there ARE some VERY sketchy areas that might be require EXTRA diligence in getting around the area safely. I would NOT say NOT to go out but limited amounts of cash on U would be a recommendation. Enjoy your stay!!! :thumb

During our late night stay in San Juan aboard the Carnival Legend we had a late night Mexican Fiesta Dance Party which started around 11pm and including a mexican food buffet and a huge party on the lido deck which went till about 1 or 2am. In addition to that they had the usual nightly show which including two guys from San Juan who performed a comedy/magic routine. We didn't really get off the ship either but we still had a nice night!

Was on the Triumph in Puerto Rico in October.
Really found it to be a rather boring stop. We just browsed a craft sale in the park. I don't recall anything special going on on the ship. I personally think that is one place where Carnival falls short. No special celebrations of the ports or even a send-off party when leaving Miami (or Galveston, etc).

It has been a while, but we also had an evening stop in San Juan. Carnival still had most of the nightly activities going on. I too agree that being here in the evening is a total waste of time.

It's been awhile for us as well. There was quite a line for one of the excursions Carnival offered (Juan Carlos) and everyone said that it was very good. We wandered around town by the pier..the little outdoor market mentioned above...sat at the end of the parkway and listened to the water while looking at the lit up ship and smelling the plumeria. It may not have been the most exciting stop but we still enjoyed ourselves! (We ate on board...while many others went to the Hard Rock Cafe, etc.)

Stay on the ship-- eat dinner then head out to the port. After leaving the pier - turn left there is a small visitors center there. keep walking to the left will take you to the waters and some lookout area that you can look out.
Across the street from the visitors center is a place that gives you free slushie drinks so you can try their rums.

shopping will be to the right at this point.

You can find horse carriages here.

there also is a casino here that you can try your luck.

It is a fun place to visit at night-- even if its just to spend two hours walking around looking.

Hi We had a 5pm stop last year oboard the Liberty. We choose not to get off.
Sat on top deck and watch the people leave, walk around, and return to ship. We enjoyed cocktails and people watched.
