Excursion picked, but I have a time question.

We are planning on doing the Discover Scuba Diving thru Coki Beach Dive Club on St Thomas. However I noticed that our ship's arrival time says 7am and their pickup time is 8:30am. Does the ship stay on Miami time (thought I read that somewhere)? If so, does that mean that we will really be arriving in St Thomas at 8am? If this is correct, is 1/2 an hour long enough to get off the ship? Going through Coki Beach is $40 per person cheaper than doing the same excursion through RCCL and they give you snorkel gear to use on the beach for the entire afternoon if you like. So, we would really rather do this, but just wondering if it is even possible.

Okay, now that I have asked a million questions . . . . :)

generally the ship changes all its clocks to the port time ----a note is usually left on your pillow advising you of the time change

I thought it was the other way around...I think the ship keeps the time it was on at the departure port. You can call the cruise company to get a definite answer. :idea

By the way, Ocean, how's it going with your friend's husband:? Did he become a little easier to deal with now that your cruise is getting closer?

I've been on 4 cruises so far and every single once kept the port time as the constant time (ship time they call it) and you had to keep your watch on that time and go by that.

I would think switching times every time zone would be confusing to cruise passengers and that is why they keep "ships time" constant to the ports. (IE: we sailed out of Tampa and stayed on EST the entire cruise even though we went to mexico which is CST)

Thanks for the help! Yes, he finally did lighten up! So, we are all doing the things we want to do. Does anyone know if 1/2 an hour is enough time to get off the ship in St Thomas?

On all the cruises we have been on the ship always changed the time to the local time of the port of call.
If you are really concerned check with the cruise line to be sure.

you can also email the tour company and let them know that you are a cruise ship passenger they should be familiar enough to know when you get there and when you get back,,, as far as 30 min being enough.... I suppose if you are docked and not tendered and up bright and early then yes,,, however you must take into consideration that even though the cruise ship may get to port at 7 am , they have to clear local customs first before they can start to dismebark passengers
