excursions in Progresso

Needing info on any excursions in Progresso? Weve been to this port before but just went to the main market and walked down to the beach. We really didnt care for the beach there it wasnt very pretty water and had a sulfur smell. Are there any resorts or other beaches to go to? Or any info on other good things to do, we have several kids in our group from age 6 to 17 and adults.

I don't remember any smell. The water is Gulf of Mexico water, not the blue Caribbean water.

There is the $2 double decker tour bus which was fun.

I like the trip to Uxmal, but it isn't the beach...

There really is no decent snorkeling there.

Autoprogreso is the company that provides the free shuttle buses to/from the ship. The also do tours, at least one of which goes to a resort. I'm pretty sure they offer more tours than what is listed on their website, and you can email them for additional info.

We took the ruins tour at Dziblchaltun. The bus ride was pleasant, and not too long, and the ruins were beautiful. We walked the grounds and climbed the temple. There was a cenote (fresh water sinkhole) there which was beautiful, and lots to see. But the best part was the informative talks and local culture we experienced from the very knowledgeable guides and museum staff. The lunch we purchased there was nothing fancy, but very tasty. I would recommend this tour.
