I don't remember any smell. The water is Gulf of Mexico water, not the blue Caribbean water.

There is the $2 double decker tour bus which was fun.

I like the trip to Uxmal, but it isn't the beach...

Autoprogreso is the company that provides the free shuttle buses to/from the ship. The also do tours, at least one of which goes to a resort. I'm pretty sure they offer more tours than what is listed on their website, and you can email them for additional info.
