Going to progresso in Oct and looking at doing a ruins excursion., It is cheaper with autoprogresso on your own than it is with carnival. But a little unsure about getting back to the ship on time. Any info would be great!!!!!

If you have any doubts about getting back to the ship on time, then take the ship sponsored excursion.

I usually don't book excursions through the ship but I never usually venture so far away that I couldn't make it back in time for the ship's departure.

When venturing further away from the ship it might be worthwhile to book the Carnival excursion.

We Have Done Both and

have even set off on our own, relying on local transport -- taxis, buses, the odd ferry or two. We got so relaxed that we left the ship in one port with no idea of when it was scheduled to sail! Fortunately, there were plenty of other cruisers around to ask. Everyone always talks about getting back to the ship on time (a valid concern) but no one ever talks about getting to the tours you book on your own on time. Delays in getting into port, weather, tendering -- all these can affect your ability to meet up with your tour at the appropriate time -- especially if the tour you book on your own is not one of the cruise ship tours. Do some research on line first. Sometimes there are savings, sometimes not.:dance:

Not to put a "damper" on your cruise, but with the troubles occuring in Mexico at this point in time "I" speaking for myself here, would feel alot safer going on a tour thru the cruise line.

Heading out for the 7 day Western Caribbean on Glory Sept.19th. Although this will be our 8th Carnival cruise we have never participated on shore excursions in Belize, Costa Maya or Cozumel. We are somewhat worried about the heat and possible exertion at such a warm time of the year. Any suggestions on shore excursions ? Tom
