This tour combines a short rail trip aboard the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railway with a dramatic wilderness hike. Board the historic railroad for a brief ride to a wilderness whistle stop and the Denver Trailhead. Experienced guides will accompany you through the dense temperate rainforest, filled with beautiful old-growth western hemlocks. Lookout points provide spectacular views of the raging waters of the Skagway River, the Denver Glacier Valley and the magnificent Sawtooth Mountain Range. There are plenty of opportunities along the way for photographs and wildlife viewing. Guides will provide information on the valley's forest, plants and geology. On the trail, be provided with snacks and water and at the end of the hike you'll be served beverages while enjoying the train ride back to town. Hike the Chilkoot Trail - a tranquil place of incredible beauty with rainforest, streams teeming with spawning salmon and birds, animals, wild flowers and edible berries. The trail brings you to the banks of the Taiya River, where your 35-minute float trip (with no whitewater) begins. The ride culminates at the tidal estuary where the forest gives way to fields of beach greens and wild iris. The granite walls of the fjord rise up steeply, becoming snowcapped peaks serrated by hanging glaciers. Enjoy a riverside snack before returning to your ship.
