I have never cruised before and while I'm excited,
I am also very nervous. I do suffer from motion sickness,
and so I will be prepared for that. But I wanted to make
it as easy on myself as possible. From what I learned,
a cabin in the middle of the ship is best,
but as we were booking there came a cabin available
that has a wrap around deck. And so of course we were tempted,
and took it! It is room 8268 on the Panorama Deck.

Click here to see the exact room

So this room is so NOT in the middle of the ship,
but our travel agent told us that the restaurant is directly beneath us,
and there's no way they would put it there if there was a lot of rocking.

But now I read that it's not good to be too high up either.

It's definitely not too late for me to change rooms.

What say you experienced cruisers?
I really want my first cruise to be fabulous!
I don't wanna be green the whole time!

Thanks in advance for your help

On my first cruise I played it safe and went with a mid ship room. I still got a little rocking, it was not to bad. I did have my nails done at the spa on the back of the ship same rocking but it felt a little more choppy? It really also depends on when your going. there are certain times of the year where the ocean can be smooth you may want to look at that as well. I can't say for sure hopefully someone whos stayed there will reply? The best advice I can give is if the boat is rocking don't try drinking and playing a slot machine at the same time, good advice from someone with a strong stomache

You will feel more movement in that cabin than you will mid ship. Mother Nature will determine if she wants to provide you with a smooth ride or not........

The restaurant is lower for a reason.

Couldn't get your deck up on your link. You are going on the Legend? We were in this same balcony cabin on the Spirit 2 months ago. You are going to LOVE it. I am WAY WAY spoiled now! Matter of fact, we loved it so much we booked the same ship and same cabin for 2/08 :)(tu) I have never suffered from motion sickness (knock wood) but I have to tell you, I felt absolutely NO MOTION the whole 8 days we were in that cabin or on the balcony. And I LIKE to feel the ship swaying a bit :grin As Suer pointed out, it's all going to depend on Mother Nature too. Hope you have smooth sailing!

Unfortunately your TA is wrong. Yes you are above the resturant but many decks above it. Remember the higher you are the more you will notice movement too. I also note that there is a pool and open deck above you which could make for a noise situation.

In spite of the bad location it is a super cabin and I would just load up on sea sickness meds and cures rather than give it up.:thumb

We never had a problem with noise, chairs scraping, any of that. That is another thing I loved about the location of that cabin; you were one deck below Lido and could run and up and down the stairs from pool/buffets and your cabin without waiting for elevators and all that. The elevators and stairs are a few cabins down, and I would get up early and run up and get some coffee and some danish and bring down and sit on my balcony every morning. I didn't have to figure out what time I wanted room service to deliver. The only "bad" thing is that if you are in the public areas of the ship (casino, dining room, etc) it is a LONG WALK back to your cabin! Gives you an excuse for a 2nd chocolate melting cake, tho! And you never have to look at numbers on the doors either to find your cabin :lol I think you will be very happy in this cabin.

I've always heard the best way to help relieve some motion sickness is to go out on deck and get some fresh air. This way you can go out your deck door and you're there. I hear those cabins are the best - no matter how high they are. If you want to be absolutely sure about motion sickness then get your doctor to prescribe the Scop. patch. We never have to worry about anything...except a little dry mouth the first day. If you enjoy lots of alcohol then it's not the thing to use.

If you don't expect perfection...everything going exactly like you want it...or being exactly the way you think it should be...you will have a wonderful time on your cruise!

I will go to the Doc for meds, and I'm not much of a drinker, so I'm all set there! ;)

I shan't be expecting perfection, and I'm praying to have a wonderful time! (tu)

I'm not sure about the carribean in december we went in early april, word on the deck is we were a little early for glass like seas. However we didn't have too much rocking and after a day we were all used to it. It may take a day or two to get your sea legs but the rocking can make for the best nights sleep ever. I know most people don't remeber sleeping but that's how good it can be. My secret to cruise the bad can also be the best.
