Here is the message I just received from HAL regarding dining room charges.

Ms. Wilner,

Thank you for your email.

The only time we will charge a surcharge for any item ie) shrimp, lobster,
etc. - is if it is not on that particular evening's menu. The surcharge
would range depending on what is ordered from $2.50 - $15.00

Kind regards,
Michele

We haven't paid extra...even when we requested something like shrimp cocktail that wasn't on the menu that night.

Nor have I ever had to pay extra for anything in the dining room. Usually, my waiter asks the first evening of the cruise, if you see nothing on the menu that appeals to you, please say so. He will usually add, that they will do their utmost to satisfy your desires. Have to admit that I have never requested such a special service as I have never had any problem finding lots to like on the menu.

That is a standard customer service line. I have never seen nor heard of any one being charged for anything that is not on the menu. If they have it in the freezer and they have enough time and warning to get it ready, they will fix it for you and serve you.

You may be told that you can get lobster in 10 minutes on a non-lobster night because they can't thaw it, but they will usually do things for you.

Obviously, they don't want everyone ordering things that aren't on the menu because the only way they get you in and out in that time is to do an assembly line process. Personally, I have never ordered anything that wasn't on the menu because I can always fined three or four things to eat let alone one.

The only fee that they are starting this week is for the alternate dining room of $20.00. I belive to keep the rush down to get in.
