We are in the middle of remodeling (call it a flip) our third house. (DH is a carpenter).

So this house was built in the 50's, and we rearranged the kitchen while remodeling (we sure could have used Suer with all that new plumbing).

You know how some kitchen's have that indentation for the fridge, so that it sits back slightly into the wall? Well this house had about a six inch indentation.

We moved the fridge to a different wall and had to do something with this little indentation. He was going to just drywall over it, and then I came up with an idea. (HE LOVES WHEN I DO THAT :))

How about a can cabinet? I've seen them in some of the newer homes. Well it's done and already loaded up with cans, spices, etc. I can't believe how much we were able to store in there. The cabinet door sit flush with existing wall.

Thought I'd share the outcome with you...

Reggae, love your idea. On one of those home improvement shows I saw them do that on a regular flat wall, They cut out the wallboard between 2 studs in a couple places and built several display units, with glass shelves and back lighting. Since I like building room boxes for my miniature displays I have always wanted to add a couple of these to my home, but I'm currently renting. LOL Some day!!!

I think one of those old fashioned ironing board cupboards with room to store the iron in there as well would be sooo practical. I know most of us don't iron much, but when we do need to tackle that evil chore (like just before a Caribbean cruise when we want to pack those cool cotton items) , we need everything possible to make it more convenient or we will never get around to it. LOL In fact, when I cruised I ended up just packing the shirts right out of the dryer and sent them to the ship's laundry to be ironed. LOL LOL

Glad to see that your migraine meds are working and you can see again. I hate it when I can't even see my computer screeen. Your pics turned out great.

Hugs, Mari

Hey Mari, I agree with you. Storing the ironing board and iron would be great. Mine stays set up in the basement most of the time :)

I have to admit, I like storage ideas...the more the better for me. My mom was a "collector" (as she grew up during the Great Depression). So I guess I'm the opposite. I have "stuff" but I like to keep it stored somehow.

And Glo's scrapbooking room really looks great with all of her storage ideas.

I'm going to have to talk to DH about your idea with knocking the wall out! He's going to love that!!!

Wow I like that. We bought some little portable cabinets but eventually I'd love to do the same thing. Thanks for sharing.

What a neat idea! We got a new frig that was bigger than the wall indentation but our deep freezer fits in there and gives us more counter top space.

You guys have an iron? :) That's why God invented cleaners! :lol I seriously do not remember the last time I turned my iron on, and couldn't find the ironing board if my life depended on it!

Back in the 50's when I was a kid, I remember my mother standing there ironing my dad's white shirts for HOURS!

Guess we have come a long way....

Like your storage outcome. Great idea. I remember when I was in high school that part of my allowance was ironing my Dad's shirts. I had to do five a week for ten cents each. I could do one each morning or do the lot on the weekend. I really hated that job!

One of the first "chores" I had as a kid was helping with the ironing....I now HATE to iron. I make DH send his shirts out. For $.99 they do a GREAT job ;) I still have my iron and board though. I have one of those that hand over the door. It is on the back of the laundry room door.

Patty, I love your pantry...that was a GREAT idea!

Karin,

Isn't it funny, I too hate ironing, and I know it was because I had that job when I was young too. My mother would stand there in the summer just sweating and ironing those shirts and our dresses.

she had eight kids, and back then, no such thing a permanent press.

As soon as we were old enough, it became our job, and we sure weren't happy.

OK I'm probably weird but I like to iron. I remember as a kid we had big glass soda bottles filled with water and they used to sell tops to stick into the bottle so you could sprinkle the clothes. And sometimes we put the clothes in the fridge damp while we ironed until we could get to them but the dampness helped get out the wrinkles. I used to volunteer to do the ironing. I find ironing very de-stressing.

=yeah.. I iron to destress too.. and it's not bad..just Mark's dress clothes for work..so I do it every 2 weeks or so...

I hate when men look "rumpled"..

and there is no such thing as $.99 dress shirts at the cleaners in VERMONT!!..=lolgang.. Connecticut yes.. not here..:dizzy.. it's either do it myself. or have dress shirts look like Mark rolled on the floor in them...:worried..so ironing is OK for me....:)..Joanne

:thumb:thumb i will not even go near the word 'ironing'. Dangerous & I
no longer do it....so there.hahaha

But I have to say WOW to that cupboard. You made the decision? And the
wonderful husband did the work? And finished the work? And it was in the
same year?

I would soooo dearly love to know your secret. SOH is a DIYFE (do it yourself forever) Never finishes a job. LOL

Hey Judy, I remember those pop bottles with the sprinkle tops too...wow you jogged some old memories here...

Sailing gal, believe me, it is a struggle to get things "completed". He works so much for others, that our house is on the bottom of the list. My kids joke about always living in houses "in process", as soon as they are done, we move. :).....then we start all over again....
