Chief Security Officer
MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:
On July 1st and 2nd, 25 members of the MSC Splendida's crew will participate in a first aid cardio-pulmonary course.
The course will take place - in collaboration with the Gruppo per l'Intervento nelle Emergenze Cardiologiche (Cardiological Emergency Intervention Group) and Il Pellicano Volunteer Association - on the new flagship, docked at Saint Nazaire, and is explicitly intended for non-medical members of staff (deck officers, pursers and personnel in pool areas, restaurants, entertainment, reception and the spa).
In accordance with the provisions of the American Heart Association (AHA) and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR 2005), the health safety plan adopted on board MSC Splendida also entails the installation of several semi-automatic external defibrillators in large common areas. The crew will therefore receive ad hoc training (BLSD - basic life support defibrillator) on how to use this equipment, thus guaranteeing passengers immediate assistance in cases of emergency.
Appropriate signs will be located on the pool deck to guide crew members towards the defibrillators and the dedicated first aid unit for manoeuvres to be performed when waiting for the medical staff to arrive.
The medical staff will contemporaneously attend a specialised course on advanced first aid techniques for heart attacks and strokes.
