First Post "Hello" and Question About Cabin Noise

Hi All,

I'm brand new here and brand new to cruising also. So first off - hello to everyone. These forums seem really informative and fun to read.

So...I'll be cruising with my S.O. for our first time ever on Jewel of the Seas in late April to the Eastern Caribbean. Right now we've got an E1 balcony room on deck 7 very near the back of the ship (that's aft, right? - sorry, this is new to me). The Royal Caribbean rep who helped me book the room said not to worry about the room being far from the middle of the ship - that the ride is very smooth back there. She also said this room has a larger balcony than the norm for this class of rooms. OK, that all sounds great.

Now my question...looking over the deck plans, I see this room is directly above some of the nightclub spaces on deck 6 that apparently have live music late into the night. How much noise will we hear in our cabin? My S.O. and I are both somewhat early to bed types, not late-night partiers. We'll want a quiet room, a good night's sleep, and an early rise each morning.

Should I try to get a different room? There's not a lot of choice left on this cruise.

Thanks all for any comments and advice!

Hi, I just pulled out my layout of Jewel and looked to see where you are. I would worry about this location. If you were on Deck 8 or 9 you would be fine. I know people who have been over one of the lounges and did hear the "throb" type of sound late at night. You know, when someone in the house has the stero on too loud and you keep hearing the beat. If you are early to bed, I'd try to switch this room. The larger balcony is nice, but deck 8 or 9 puts you above and below other cabins. On Jewel, I love mid ship - on the hump. We were there once before and are also booked for July in the same cabin.

You will love Jewel, we do.....

Thanks for the reply. I just upgraded to a D1 cabin on the 9th deck, a little closer to the center of the ship although still aft of the main lobby area and still on the port side. Smaller balcony, but hopefully a nice quiet cabin.

I just got off the jewel a few weeks ago, and was on the 9th deck mid ship, where is your cabin now? This is a great deck because it is very quiet and mostly all suites.
